Python Developer - Sydney - Buy-Side - Financial Services
My client is a global trading firm where you'll build high-performance backend platforms that power research, trading, and core business operations. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on designing scalable systems, solving complex technical problems, and working alongside world-class engineers, researchers, and traders.

Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and distributed systems in Python.
- Build robust APIs, data processing pipelines, and automation tools supporting trading and research platforms.
- Optimise system performance, reliability, and latency across production environments.
- Develop software for Linux-based production infrastructure and improve operational tooling.
- Collaborate closely with traders, quantitative researchers, and infrastructure teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
- Troubleshoot production issues and drive continuous improvements to system stability and performance.
Requirements
- 3+ years of professional backend development experience. (Open to Java, C#, C++, Golang)
- Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience building backend applications.
- Excellent Linux systems knowledge, including debugging, performance tuning, and shell scripting.
- Experience developing production-grade distributed systems or high-performance backend services.
- Strong understanding of networking, concurrency, and system design principles.
- Experience with SQL and working with large datasets.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced engineering environment.
Nice to Have
- Experience within a quantitative trading, hedge fund, HFT, or financial markets environment.
- Candidates from leading technology companies with strong backend engineering experience are also encouraged to apply.
- Exposure to cloud infrastructure, containerisation, CI/CD, or Infrastructure-as-Code.
- Knowledge of market data, exchange connectivity, or low-latency systems is advantageous.
