Role Description
Resident Engineer (Data Center Infrastructure)
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Resident Engineer to be based on-site to provide day-to-day operational support, maintenance, and troubleshooting for a mixed enterprise infrastructure environment comprising network, server, storage, security, and middleware platforms. The Resident Engineer will act as the primary technical point of contact on-site, suppporting (H3C, Oracle, NetApp, Dell EMC, Stormshield, Brocade, Red Hat, Veritas, MySQL/Oracle) for incident resolution, preventive maintenance, and system health monitoring.
Key Responsibilities
Provide first-line and second-line technical support for all data center hardware and software assets listed in the supported inventory (see Technical Scope below).
Perform daily health checks, monitoring, and preventive maintenance on servers, storage, network, and security appliances.
Log, triage, and manage incidents/service requests through to resolution, escalating to OEM/vendor support (H3C, Oracle, NetApp, Dell EMC, Brocade, Stormshield, Red Hat, Veritas) where required.
Coordinate hardware break-fix activities, including parts replacement, firmware/patch upgrades, and vendor dispatch coordination.
Support backup and disaster recovery operations, including tape library and backup storage management.
Maintain configuration, asset, and change records for all supported systems.
Assist with capacity planning, patch management, and periodic DR/failover testing.
Prepare and submit regular status, incident, and maintenance reports to the client and management.
Ensure compliance with SLA commitments and change management/ITIL processes.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Diploma/Degree in Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or related field.
Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on experience in data center operations, infrastructure support, or as a resident/on-site engineer.
Working knowledge of enterprise server platforms (x86 and SPARC/Unix), particularly H3C and Oracle server hardware.
Experience with SAN storage and SAN switching (Brocade, NetApp, or equivalent enterprise storage).
Familiarity with network switching and load balancing concepts (H3C, HAProxy or equivalent).
Exposure to firewall/UTM and web application firewall administration (Stormshield, or equivalent).
Linux administration skills (Red Hat Enterprise Linux) — installation, patching, troubleshooting.
Understanding of middleware/application server platforms (JBoss/Red Hat Runtimes) is an advantage.
Experience with backup and recovery solutions (Veritas NetBackup, tape libraries) is an advantage.
Basic database administration exposure (MySQL) preferred.
Knowledge of virtualization/cluster management (H3C UIS, Veritas InfoScale) is an advantage.
Competency Required
DC/DRC Infrastructure: Understanding of data center and disaster recovery center architecture, including site replication, failover procedures, and DR testing for servers, storage, and backup systems.
Virtualization: Working knowledge of server virtualization and virtual infrastructure management (e.g., H3C UIS, VMware, or equivalent hypervisor platforms), including VM provisioning, resource allocation, and cluster/HA management.
Networking: Solid grasp of enterprise networking concepts — switching (ToR/access/core), load balancing, VLANs, routing fundamentals, and network troubleshooting across multi-vendor environments.
Data Security: Familiarity with firewall/UTM and web application firewall administration, security policy configuration, access control, and general data protection practices within a DC/DRC environment.

Soft Skills
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving ability under time pressure.
Good communication skills for coordinating with vendors, client IT teams, and management.
Ability to work independently on-site with minimal supervision.
Willingness to be on standby/on-call for incident response, including after-hours support as required by SLA.
