Position Title: SMART/400 & COBOL/400 Systems Developer

Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Industry: Insurance

Key Objective

We are seeking a Systems Developer to produce scalable software solutions and join a cross-functional team responsible for the full software development life cycle, from conception to deployment. The ideal candidate will be proficient in Smart/400 and Cobol/400 development with a solid understanding of insurance workflows, processes, and products.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the development team to understand project requirements and objectives.
• Write clean, maintainable code following coding standards and best practices.
• Perform unit testing and debugging of SMART programs.
• Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and adherence to established coding standards.
• Contribute to technical documentation, including system design, specifications, and user guides.
• Assist in troubleshooting and resolving software defects or issues.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including designers and testers, to deliver high-quality software solutions.
• Oversee change management and change control reviews to ensure adherence to regulatory (BNM) and audit requirements.
• Ensure the quality, performance, and security of the product.

Job Description & Experience

• Domain Knowledge: Knowledge of general insurance business with working knowledge of Policy/Asia, integration, and the software development lifecycle.
• Regulatory: Experience with insurance industry practices/regulations and liaising with regulators and auditors.
• Technical Tools: Familiarity with WRKQRY, Query/400, SQL/400, SQL, and BI tools.
• Documentation: Experience in preparing test case documents and Unit test plans.
• Soft Skills: Advanced written and verbal communication skills.
• Core Competencies: Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, along with job planning and organization skills.

Qualifications

• A recognised degree in Computer Science, a similar technical field of study, or equivalent practical experience.
• Overall 3+ years of experience in system development using SMART/400 across various modules within the Policy/Asia ecosystem.
