Our client, a fast-growing AI and enterprise software company, is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to build and enhance scalable backend systems for a next-generation e-commerce platform. The role involves designing, developing, and optimizing high-performance distributed applications while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, reliable, and data-driven solutions. Candidates with strong backend engineering experience, cloud technologies, microservices, and scalable system design are encouraged to apply.

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer with a strong backend focus to design, develop, and scale enterprise-grade systems supporting modern eCommerce operations.

This role involves building APIs, backend services, integrations, and cloud-native applications while driving technical decisions, mentoring engineers, and leading projects from design through deployment.

Key Responsibilities:

Backend Development & Architecture

• Design, develop, test, and deploy scalable backend services and APIs (REST & GraphQL)
• Build event-driven systems, integrations, and supporting web applications
• Develop cloud-native solutions on modern cloud platforms
• Ensure systems are performant, reliable, secure, and scalable

Technical Leadership

• Lead technical design discussions and architectural decisions
• Drive engineering best practices and code quality standards
• Mentor and support engineers through code reviews, technical guidance, and knowledge sharing
• Lead projects from requirements gathering through production deployment

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with Product, Engineering, and Business teams
• Participate in planning, solution design, and delivery of new features
• Contribute to continuous improvement of development processes and engineering standards

System Performance & Reliability

• Improve system observability, performance, and scalability
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues
• Participate in on-call support and incident management activities
• Ensure comprehensive testing across unit, integration, and endpoint levels

Documentation & Knowledge Sharing

• Create and maintain technical documentation
• Promote engineering excellence through collaboration and best-practice sharing

RequirementsExperience

• Minimum 6 years of software engineering experience
• Experience in senior, lead, or technical leadership capacity
• Proven track record delivering projects end-to-end
• Experience mentoring or guiding other engineers

Technical Skills

• Strong backend development experience building production-grade APIs and services
• Hands-on experience with Node.js and/or Golang
• Experience with RESTful APIs and GraphQL
• Strong SQL and/or MongoDB experience
• Familiarity with Redis or other caching technologies
• Experience with asynchronous and event-driven architectures (Pub/Sub, Message Queues)
• Working knowledge of ReactJS
• Strong understanding of performance optimization and scalable system design
• Experience writing automated tests and maintaining software quality standards
• Understanding of secure coding practices and application security

AI-Assisted Development

• Experience using modern AI development tools such as Cursor, Windsurf, Claude Code, or similar productivity tools

Education

• Degree in Computer Science or related discipline

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Experience with eCommerce or marketplace platforms
• Experience leading small engineering teams or owning technical domains
• Experience with LLM APIs, AI Agents, or Agent Frameworks
• Experience with distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven architectures
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices
• Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Datadog, New Relic, or Cloud Monitoring

Pay: Up to RM40,000.00 per month
