Job description
Duties and Responsibilities of Production Supervisor
The Production Supervisor is mainly responsible for daily planning and tasking of work and process orders in the production department with the requirement to manage manpower and resources allocated to the department. This would include the provision of guidance, support, and training to the operators. He/she is also expected to maintain a positive relationship between operators and departments in the organization with objectives of increasing work performance, building good human relations and creating a congenial and co-operative environment.
The production supervisor is expected to perform the following four main functions within the Production department:
Planning
1. Plan work received from Production Planners and Production Manager and to divide these work to various operators according to their abilities.
2. Perform manpower scheduling and shift planning to ensure sufficient manpower is always available to meet production demand.
3. Daily check of manpower availability and scheduling of overtime if necessary to meet production target.
4. Schedule for periodic check on inventory of raw material and intermediates as part of the inventory management plan.
5. Ensure sufficiency of raw material and intermediates within Production and to plan for restock once material falls below requirement.
6. Check for serviceability of resources such as weighing balances and lifting handling equipment as part of the manufacturing activities requirement.
7. Communicate with other departments such as Logistic and Maintenance to resolve issues that hinders productivity and output.
8. Liaise with Maintenance department for the planning of preventive maintenance and ad-hoc maintenance of equipment.
9. Perform additional tasked roles as part of the organisation requirements.
Leading
1. Act as a coach to the operator and as a role model for them in terms of career development and direction.
2. Act as an advocate for the operators by acting as a spoke person in communicating requests to management.
3. Guides operators by fixing production targets and by providing them instruction and guidelines to achieve those targets.
4. To train operators and ensure that operators are properly trained for their specific roles.
5. Perform periodic meetings with operators and share company updates and new objectives with them.
6. Maintain close contact with operators to interact with their problems, complaints and suggestions they might have and to bring it to the notice of management if necessary.
7. To take lead of the Productivity Improvement Team and to implement productivity/process improvement methodologies such as 5S, COQ, Kaizen or Six Sigma.
8. To lead team on fostering a culture of safety, quality and operational excellence.
Controlling
1. Check on daily progress of production targets and perform closure of process orders in a timely manner.
2. To check the accuracy and perform filing of paper records which are used in the recording of process parameter or CCPs.
3. Act as point of communication with QC, Planners or other related departments to derive root cause and corrective actions on all quality rejections. To recommend preventive actions and seek advice or approval from management if necessary.
4. Ensure the production inventory and all materials are well maintained in accordance to the inventory plan and perform stock correction as required.
5. Provide reports and activity updates to management when requested.
Enforcing
1. Ensure operators follow the manufacturing process in accordance to specific process steps and standard operation procedures (SOP).
2. Daily check of production area to ensure cleanliness of area and equipment are maintained, and schedule of weekly sanitation of production areas. Communicate with the general cleaners to perform additional cleaning if necessary.
3. Enforce personal hygiene of operators and ensure the performance of good manufacturing practices by operators.
4. Enforce on safe and healthy working behaviour, wearing of PPEs and to correct and report on all observed hazards and safety non-compliances.
Academic Qualifications
Diploma with at least 5 years of relevant experience or Degree with 5 years of relevant experience in Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Business Management, Economics or equivalent field
Experience and Knowledge
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint and SAP/other ERP system
Basic understanding of food processing technology will be an advantage
Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse team of production operators
Excellent problem-solving abilities and a track record of implementing process improvements
Able to support departmental audits by internal and external auditors
