Job Description – Product Quality Engineer (PQE)
Position Summary
The Product Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring product quality and reliability throughout the manufacturing lifecycle. This role owns product/process health indicators, drives systematic corrective actions, supports NPI transitions, and ensures customer satisfaction through robust quality controls and issue resolution.
Key Responsibilities
- Quality Control & Process Effectiveness
- Assess and recommend improvements to QC procedures to enhance effectiveness and efficiency.
- Own and monitor QA product/process health indicators (e.g., DPPM) and quality dashboards.
- Analyze QA/Test/Process failures and drive structured, systematic corrective and preventive actions (e.g., ICAR/CAR).
- Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Participate in and lead cross‑functional teams for product quality and reliability improvement projects (both NPI and sustaining).
- Work closely with NPI teams to coordinate and implement new products into mass production.
- Collaborate with engineering, production, supplier quality, and customer‑facing teams on quality escalations and improvement activities.
- Defect Management & Lot Disposition
- Perform defect verification, root cause analysis, containment, and follow‑up on quality issues.
- Perform lot disposition, shipment blocking/approval, and oversee quality release decisions.
- Generate, implement, and close ICARs/CARs in timely manner.
- New Product Introduction (NPI) Support
- Provide technical evaluation support for NPI builds.
- Monitor corrective actions, qualification progress, and production readiness.
- Customer Quality Management
- Analyze and follow up on customer‑reported problems and ensure timely containment, corrective action, and communication of status.
- Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare quality reports, data analysis summaries, and audit‑related documentation.
- Ensure quality documentation and procedures are properly maintained and compliant with internal QMS requirements.
Additional Expectations
- Lead continual improvement activities through defining test/process problems that drive quality excursions.
- Support ISO audit preparation and quality metrics performance reviews.
- Practice risk‑based thinking and contribute to process FMEA/PFMEA updates where required.
