The client is seeking an experienced and hands-on Group Human Resources Manager to lead the full spectrum of Human Resources across our automotive retail group. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the successful candidate will oversee HR operations for approximately 500 employees across multiple business units and locations, ensuring that people strategies effectively support business growth, operational excellence, and regulatory compliance.
This role requires a commercially minded HR leader who is equally comfortable driving strategic initiatives while remaining actively involved in day-to-day HR operations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Human Resource Strategy & Business Partnership
Partner with the COO and senior management to develop and execute HR strategies aligned with the company's business objectives.
Provide professional HR advice on workforce planning, organisational development, succession planning, and talent management.
Drive initiatives that improve employee engagement, productivity, and retention.
Develop HR policies and standard operating procedures to support business expansion and operational consistency.
2. Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning
Lead end-to-end recruitment for corporate, retail showroom, service centre, technical, and support functions.
Ensure timely hiring while maintaining quality of talent.
Develop employer branding initiatives to strengthen talent attraction.
Monitor manpower budgets and headcount planning across the Group.
3. Performance Management
Manage the Group's performance management framework, including KPI setting, performance reviews, and development planning.
Coach managers on performance conversations and employee development.
Support the implementation of performance improvement plans where necessary.
4. Payroll Administration & HR Operations
Oversee monthly payroll processing to ensure timely and accurate salary payments.
Verify payroll calculations, statutory deductions, overtime, commissions, allowances, incentives, and employee claims.
Ensure compliance with EPF, SOCSO, EIS, PCB, HRD Corp, and other statutory requirements.
Work closely with Finance to ensure payroll accuracy and proper reconciliation.
Continuously improve payroll processes and internal controls while maintaining confidentiality of employee information.
5. Compensation & Benefits
Administer salary structures, annual salary reviews, bonuses, incentives, and employee benefits.
Conduct market benchmarking to ensure competitiveness.
Recommend improvements to reward and recognition programmes.
6. Employee Relations & Industrial Relations
Foster positive employee relations and maintain a healthy working environment.
Handle employee grievances, disciplinary matters, investigations, and domestic inquiries where required.
Ensure compliance with Malaysian Employment Act and other labour legislation.
Advise management on employment-related matters and organisational risks.
7. Learning & Development
Identify organisational training needs and coordinate learning initiatives.
Manage annual training plans and HRD Corp claims.
Support leadership development and succession planning programmes.
8. HR Compliance & Governance
Ensure compliance with employment legislation and company policies.
Maintain accurate HR records and documentation.
Review and update HR policies in line with regulatory changes.
Support internal and external audits relating to HR and payroll.
9. Team Leadership
Lead, mentor, and develop the HR team.
Build a service-oriented HR function that supports business operations efficiently.
Promote continuous improvement and digitalisation of HR processes where appropriate.
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, or related discipline.
Minimum 8–12 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3 years in a managerial capacity.
Experience managing the full spectrum of HR, including payroll administration.
Prior experience supporting organisations with approximately 300–1,000 employees is preferred.
Exposure to retail, automotive, manufacturing, distribution, or multi-site operations would be advantageous.
Strong knowledge of Malaysian employment legislation and statutory requirements.
Experience working closely with senior management and business leaders.
Familiarity with HRIS and payroll systems.
Strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder management abilities.
