Are you passionate about developing innovative health and wellness products? We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive R&D Executive to support the development of KITSUI’s product pipeline.
This role is responsible for assisting in product formulation, laboratory trials, stability testing, technical documentation, and regulatory compliance to ensure products are developed safely, effectively, and in accordance with company and Ministry of Health Malaysia requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Product Development and Formulation
- Assist in the formulation and development of health supplements, functional consumables, pharmaceutical-related products, skincare, and cosmetic products.
- Conduct bench-scale laboratory trials based on approved product concepts and formulation briefs.
- Prepare product samples for internal evaluation, sensory testing, stability studies, customer presentations, and pilot-scale production.
- Monitor and record formulation parameters such as pH, viscosity, texture, taste, odour, solubility, and product consistency.
- Troubleshoot formulation issues and propose improvements to enhance product performance, stability, quality, and production feasibility.
- Conduct research on raw materials, active ingredients, product trends, competitor products, and new technologies.
- Support product reformulation projects involving ingredient changes, cost optimisation, quality improvement, or regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with suppliers to obtain raw material samples, technical specifications, Certificates of Analysis, Safety Data Sheets, and supporting documents.
Stability, Quality, and Technical Evaluation
- Conduct accelerated and real-time stability testing for new and existing products.
- Monitor product changes, including colour, odour, texture, viscosity, pH, taste, packaging compatibility.
- Maintain accurate stability records and prepare technical reports based on test results.
- Assist in investigating product quality issues, production deviations, customer complaints, and formulation-related problems.
- Work closely with the Quality Assurance and Production teams during pilot batches, scale-up trials, and commercial production.
- Ensure formulations and product specifications meet internal quality standards and manufacturing requirements.
Regulatory and Documentation Support
- Prepare and maintain product formulation records, raw material specifications, finished product specifications, manufacturing instructions, technical reports, and product development documents.
- Assist in preparing documents required for product registration, notification, and regulatory submission.
- Ensure product ingredients, claims, labelling, and documentation comply with relevant requirements from the Ministry of Health Malaysia, including NPRA and the Food Safety and Quality Division where applicable.
- Support the preparation of documents for health supplements, traditional products, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, functional food, and consumable products.
- Maintain proper documentation for audits, product registration, Halal applications, GMP compliance, and internal quality systems.
- Keep updated on regulatory requirements, ingredient restrictions, permitted claims, product classifications, and industry standards.
Laboratory and Cross-Functional Support
- Maintain laboratory cleanliness, equipment, raw materials, samples, and documentation in an organised and audit-ready condition.
- Ensure laboratory activities are conducted in accordance with GMP, Good Laboratory Practices, safety procedures, and company policies.
- Monitor laboratory raw material inventory and submit purchase requests when required.
- Coordinate with Marketing, Purchasing, Production, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, and Supply Chain teams to support product development and launch timelines.
- Perform other R&D-related duties assigned by the R&D Manager or management.
Job Requirements:
- Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Food Science, Food Technology, Nutrition, Biotechnology, Biomedical Science, Cosmetic Science, or a related field.
- Preferably with working experience in one or more of the following industries:
- Health supplements, Pharmaceutical or medicine manufacturing, Traditional or herbal medicine, Functional food and beverages, Food supplements and consumable products, Nutraceuticals, Cosmetics and skincare, Medical or healthcare-related products, KKM-regulated products
- Familiarity with Ministry of Health Malaysia requirements, NPRA guidelines, food regulations, cosmetic notification, GMP, Halal, HACCP, or related regulatory standards is an advantage.
- Experience in product formulation, laboratory testing, stability studies, product registration, documentation, or manufacturing is preferred.
- Fresh graduates with relevant internship, laboratory, formulation, manufacturing, or regulatory experience are encouraged to apply.
- Able to conduct laboratory trials and maintain accurate technical records.
- Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and documentation skills.
- Able to manage multiple product development projects and meet deadlines.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Able to communicate in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
- The ideal candidate should have practical exposure to supplement, pharmaceutical, medicine, functional consumable, nutraceutical, traditional medicine, skincare, cosmetic, or other KKM-regulated industries. The candidate should be comfortable working in a laboratory environment and possess a strong understanding of product quality, formulation, stability, documentation, and regulatory compliance.
