About NKF Malaysia

Established in 1969, NKF Malaysia has grown from a dialysis provider into one of Malaysia's leading kidney

health organisations. Today, we operate 33 dialysis centres nationwide while also driving kidney disease

prevention through community health screenings, health education, research, patient support services, and

strategic partnerships across the country.

Our programmes have screened more than 700,000 Malaysians, generating one of the country's richest

community kidney health datasets. Combined with clinical data, programme outcomes, and collaborations with

researchers and healthcare partners, we're building an increasingly powerful evidence base to understand kidney

disease in Malaysia - and what it takes to prevent it.

The Role

This role owns the evidence base behind NKF's programs - building the data infrastructure, research studies, and

impact measurement that show what our work actually achieves for patients and the health system. It also serves

as the central point for all research activity flowing through NKF - managing research grants disbursed by the

organization, overseeing proposal review and selection, and coordinating research going in and out of NKF,

whether internal, external, or cross-departmental. You'll lead a small team and work closely with the Advocacy &

Policy function, producing the research and data that fuels NKF's policy voice.

We're hiring at Manager or Assistant Manager level depending on experience, with a path to grow into the senior

role.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Lead the development of NKF's organisational data and research strategy to strengthen evidence

informed decision-making across the organisation.

• Design and continuously improve monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) frameworks that measure

the effectiveness and long-term impact of NKF's programmes.

• Build robust data systems and reporting processes across NKF's nationwide network of dialysis centres,

community screening programmes, patient support services, and education initiatives.

• Lead or collaborate on research relating to chronic kidney disease, dialysis, transplantation, prevention,

health services, behavioural interventions, implementation science, and population health.

• Develop publications, technical reports, conference presentations, donor reports, board papers, and

evidence summaries for a range of audiences.

• Build research collaborations with universities, healthcare institutions, government agencies, and other

partners to advance kidney health research in Malaysia.

• Manage NKF's research grant portfolio, including proposal review, selection, funding, governance, and

monitoring of funded studies.

• Coordinate research conducted within or involving NKF, ensuring appropriate scientific review, ethical

governance, organisational alignment, and collaboration across departments.

• Coach programme teams and regional leaders in good data collection, evaluation practices, and evidence

informed programme improvement.

• Lead and develop a small Data & Research team What We’re Looking For

• Master’s or PhD in Epidemiology, Public Health, Biostatistics, Health Sciences, Data Science, Health

Economics, Statistics, Social Sciences, or a related discipline.

• Manager: At least 3 years of relevant research/data experience.

• Assistant Manager: 1-2 years of relevant research/data experience.

• Experience in health research, epidemiology, monitoring and evaluation, implementation science, health

services research, programme evaluation, or applied analytics.

• Strong quantitative and analytical skills with experience managing, cleaning, analysing, and interpreting

complex datasets.

• Proficiency in Excel is essential. Experience with statistical software such as R, SPSS or similar analytical

tools will be an advantage.

• Experience designing evaluation frameworks or applying approaches such as Theory of Change, Social

Return on Investment (SROI), cost-effectiveness analysis, or other impact evaluation methodologies is

desirable.

• Demonstrated ability to communicate technical findings to non-technical audiences through reports,

presentations, visualisations, and strategic recommendations.

• Experience publishing research, presenting at scientific conferences, securing grants, or managing research

funding will be highly regarded.

• Strong project management and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work across

multidisciplinary teams.

• Team leadership, mentoring and/or supervisory experience is preferred for Manager-level applicants.

Why Join NKF?

You'll be joining us at an exciting stage of growth.

We're investing in research not as a supporting function, but as a strategic capability that helps shape programmes,

strengthen advocacy, influence public policy, and improve kidney health nationwide.

You'll have the opportunity to work with one of Malaysia's largest community kidney health datasets, collaborate

with clinicians, academics, policymakers, and programme leaders, and contribute to research that doesn't end

when it's published - it continues by changing how healthcare is delivered.

If you're looking for a role where your evidence can shape decisions, and your research can genuinely improve

lives - we'd love to hear from you.
