JOB DESCRIPTION – QUALITY CONTROL INSPECTOR

Position: Quality Control Inspector
Location: Port Dickson Workshop
Department: Quality Control
Reports To: QA/QC Manager / Workshop Manager

Job Purpose

To perform quality inspections and ensure that fabrication, welding, blasting, painting and related workshop activities comply with approved drawings, specifications, inspection and test plans, client requirements and applicable standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct incoming inspections of materials and verify material certificates, specifications, quantities and condition.
• Inspect fabrication activities, including material identification, cutting, fit-up, dimensions and final assembly.
• Perform visual inspections of welding work and verify compliance with approved WPS, drawings and project specifications.
• Confirm that welders possess valid qualifications for the applicable welding processes and materials.
• Coordinate NDT activities and review the relevant inspection reports.
• Inspect surface preparation, abrasive blasting and coating application when required.
• Verify environmental conditions, surface cleanliness, surface profile, paint mixing, wet-film thickness, dry-film thickness and coating defects.
• Prepare and maintain inspection reports, checklists, material traceability records, welding records and coating reports.
• Raise non-conformance reports for defective or non-compliant work and monitor corrective actions until closure.
• Coordinate inspections with production personnel, subcontractors, clients and third-party inspectors.
• Ensure measuring and inspection equipment has valid calibration.
• Review approved drawings, specifications, method statements, ITPs and quality procedures before inspection.
• Prepare inspection requests and supporting documents for client or third-party acceptance.
• Compile quality records for manufacturing record books and final handover dossiers.
• Monitor workshop activities to ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and the company’s quality management system.
• Participate in internal, client and certification audits relating to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
• Comply with all workshop health, safety and environmental requirements.
• Perform other duties assigned by management.

Qualifications and Experience

• Diploma or certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Welding, Fabrication or a related discipline.
• At least 3 years of QA/QC experience in a fabrication or mechanical workshop.
• Experience in structural steel, piping, tanks or mechanical fabrication is preferred.
• Familiar with fabrication drawings, welding symbols, WPS, PQR and welder qualification records.
• Knowledge of applicable standards such as ASME, AWS, API and ISO.
• CSWIP 3.0, CSWIP 3.1 or equivalent welding inspection certification is an advantage.
• IMM coating certification is an advantage if responsible for blasting and painting inspections.
• Familiarity with NDT methods and inspection documentation.
• Able to use common inspection and measuring instruments.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and quality documentation.
• Able to communicate effectively in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
