Are you creative, hands-on, and passionate about helping children bring their ideas to life through clay? We are looking for an enthusiastic Freelance Clay Modelling Instructor to lead engaging, hands-on CCA sessions for children in school settings.

Our Clay Modelling programme introduces students to a variety of sculpting, shaping, building, and decorative techniques using both air-dry clay and natural clay. Students work on different creative projects while developing their fine motor skills, creativity, patience, and understanding of three-dimensional art.

This role is ideal for artists, art educators, ceramicists, pottery enthusiasts, or enrichment instructors who are confident working with clay and enjoy teaching children.

Training, lesson plans, and activity materials will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging Clay Modelling classes: Guide students through age-appropriate clay projects using both air-dry and natural clay.
  • Teach fundamental clay techniques: Introduce techniques such as pinching, coiling, slab building, joining, shaping, sculpting, texturing, and decorating.
  • Encourage creativity and experimentation: Help students develop their own ideas and add individual details to their creations.
  • Create a positive classroom environment: Keep students engaged and manage behaviour with patience, encouragement, and clear boundaries.
  • Ensure safe and organised sessions: Demonstrate the proper use of clay tools and materials, manage set-up and clean-up, and follow provided lesson plans and programme guidelines.

Key Requirements

  • Hands-on experience working with both air-dry clay and natural clay.
  • Good understanding of fundamental clay modelling, sculpting, and hand-building techniques.
  • Comfortable demonstrating techniques and breaking projects down into clear, child-friendly steps.
  • Creative, patient, and confident working with groups of children.
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills.
  • Able to manage materials, tools, workspaces, and clean-up efficiently.
  • Reliable, punctual, and professional when working within school environments.
  • Able to commit to a weekly CCA schedule for a minimum of 6 months, excluding school holidays.
  • Willing to travel to various school locations across Singapore.
  • Willing to undergo the necessary background and safeguarding checks required for working in schools.

Bonus (not required):

  • Background in ceramics, pottery, sculpture, fine arts, art education, or a related creative field.
  • Previous experience teaching art, pottery, clay modelling, or enrichment programmes to children.
  • Familiarity with different clay tools, surface decoration, painting, glazing, and finishing techniques.
  • Experience adapting clay projects for different ages and ability levels.

Interview & Selection Process

Candidates will undergo a 3-stage selection process:

  • Initial Screening & Group Stage (Video Call) – Short interview and group interaction.
  • Face-to-Face Session & Trial Lesson Segment – In-person meeting, programme training, and a short demonstration activity.
  • Tryout Class (Final Review) – Conduct a supervised class session for final evaluation.

Training Provided

  • Full training in programme delivery and classroom management.
  • Access to structured lesson plans, project guides, and teaching materials.
  • Guidance on delivering projects for different age groups and ability levels.
  • Ongoing support from the Whizz Kidz programme team.

Benefits

  • Consistent weekly CCA opportunities.
  • Ready-to-use lesson plans and teaching resources.
  • Opportunity to gain experience teaching creative programmes in school environments.
  • A rewarding role helping children develop their creativity, artistic confidence, and hands-on skills.
  • Support from an experienced enrichment programme team.
