Full-time role

The role

  • Conduct relevant activities and provide advice for service delivery within own area of experience, adhering to budget constraints and contractual requirements.  
  • Produce deliverables within agreed parameters, in the defined format, and to the required time, budget, and quality standards.  
  • Discuss and present deliverables to internal and external clients, suggesting solutions where appropriate.  
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation, and industry standards.  
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high level of discipline, knowledge, and awareness.  
  • Assess or recommend the time and value of work to be undertaken for external clients, assisting in identifying the most appropriate fee and cost structure.  
  • Provide guidance to other employees, as appropriate, and disseminate information to support effective knowledge transfer and application.  
  • Assist in improving service delivery by communicating internal and external client feedback, as appropriate.  
  • Ensure the appropriate authorisations are obtained and kept up to date.  
  • Undertake routine administrative activities in line with current processes and procedures.  
  • For the electrical specialisation, carry out classification and statutory surveys and technical reviews of marine electrical systems in line with approved plans, LR Rules, statutory requirements, recognised standards, and agreed survey procedures, within the applicable scope of authorisation.  
  • Support complex or non-routine electrical issues by liaising with plan approval, technical specialists, and other survey disciplines, escalating matters when they are outside own authorisation or experience.  
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing and capability development within the local survey team on electrical survey practices, common findings, new technologies, and lessons learned from service delivery

What You Bring

  • A degree or equivalent from a tertiary organisation recognised by Lloyd’s Register within the relevant field of engineering or physical science (minimum of two years programme) or qualifications from a marine or nautical institution and relevant sea-going experience as a certificated ship’s officer.  
  • Membership of an appropriate professional institution.  
  • Working toward or obtaining charted or incorporated engineering status 
  • Work in accordance with professional codes of conduct and the LR Code of Ethics in IMS01.  
  • Use a combination of general and specialist engineering knowledge and understanding to apply existing and emerging technology.  
  • Be able to apply appropriate theoretical and practical methods to design, develop, manufacture, construct, commission, operate and maintain engineering products, processes, systems and services.  
  • Provide technical and commercial management, e.g. project management, process management.  
  • Proficiency in the English language commensurate with the work.  
  • Electrical engineering qualification, or equivalent marine electrical experience, with sound understanding of shipboard electrical systems.  
  • Working knowledge of applicable classification rules, statutory requirements, and established standards relating to marine electrical systems, including SOLAS-related electrical safety requirements and relevant IEC-based marine electrical practices, where applicable to the work scope, with willingness to build authorisation and skill level progressively.
