Company Overview

Equitable Technologies is an MIT-founded medical technology startup headquartered in Boston, with a fast-growing product development hub in Kuala Lumpur. We’re currently operating in stealth mode as we develop a breakthrough approach to cancer screening - a mission that has the potential for massive real-world impact.

We’re supported by a world-class advisory board with leaders from MIT, Harvard, the US FDA, and Cleveland Clinic- and we’re now growing our team in KL to shape and deliver this technology to the world.

About the Role

We're looking for a hands-on Mechanical / Product Development Engineer to design, prototype, test, and develop mechanical components for our ingestible imaging capsule.

You'll work directly with our CTO, Hardware Engineering, and Product Design teams, taking designs from concept → CAD → prototype → testing → manufacturing.

This is primarily an R&D and product development role. You'll design and build physical products yourself, work with prototypes and suppliers, solve mechanical problems, and iterate designs quickly in a startup environment.

What You'll Do

  • Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies from concept through manufacturing
  • Create and iterate designs using SolidWorks
  • Develop small, precise mechanical components and assemblies for a compact product
  • Build and test prototypes using 3D printing, CNC machining, and injection molding
  • Design plastic and other components with Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) in mind
  • Apply GD&T, tolerance analysis, and engineering principles to ensure reliable fit and function
  • Work closely with Hardware Engineering on mechanical/electrical integration and component layout
  • Work directly with contract manufacturers, machine shops, and suppliers to develop and produce parts
  • Test prototypes for form, fit, function, durability, and safety, and iterate designs based on results
  • Produce engineering drawings, BOMs, specifications, and test documentation
  • Support verification, validation, quality, and regulatory activities

What We're Looking For

Must-Haves:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
  • 5+ years of hands-on mechanical/product development or R&D experience
  • Proven experience taking new physical products from concept through prototype to manufacturing
  • Strong SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD skills
  • Direct hands-on experience with 3D printing, CNC machining, and injection molding, including designing components for these manufacturing processes
  • Experience with plastic part design, GD&T, and tolerance analysis
  • Experience developing small or precision mechanical components and assemblies
  • Experience working directly with manufacturers, machine shops, or suppliers
  • Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a practical, hands-on approach to engineering
  • Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced startup environment

Preferred:

  • Experience developing products in medical devices / medtech, robotics, wearables, consumer electronics, or other precision-engineered products
  • Experience working with compact electromechanical products or integrating mechanical and electronic components
  • Experience with Altium or other PCB design tools
  • Experience in ISO 13485, ISO 9001, or other regulated environments
  • Experience with product verification and validation

Why Join Us?

  • Work directly with the CTO and engineering team
  • Own mechanical R&D for a novel medical device from concept to manufacturing
  • Work across CAD, prototyping, testing, and product development
  • Join a small, multidisciplinary team where you can make a direct impact
  • Help build technology aimed at making cancer screening more accessible

Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Work arrangement: On-site
