Principle Duties

  • Business and financial performance. Own and monitor regional revenue, gross margin, operating profit, cost control, productivity, resource utilisation and working-capital performance. Identify underperformance early and implement recovery plans with clear owners and timelines.

  • Client delivery and Service Quality. Act as the senior management focal point for major East Malaysia clients, strengthen engagement and expectation management, ensure that contractual commitments are fulfilled, and lead service-recovery actions where performance has fallen below client expectations.

  • Operational governance. Establish disciplined regional governance for job planning, pre-mobilisation readiness, field execution, post-job review, escalation and management reporting. Ensure operations are adequately resourced and supported before commitments are made to clients.

  • Equipment reliability and readiness. Coordinate with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, FSPC and Service Quality to improve fleet reliability, preventive maintenance, calibration, functional testing, critical-spares availability and equipment acceptance. Escalate any equipment that is unsafe, unreliable or unsupported for the intended work.

  • Organisation and manpower effectiveness. Review the East Malaysia organisation, spans of control, role clarity, manpower levels, shift and standby arrangements, succession and deployment. Recommend a lean and functional structure with clear accountability, while observing approved HR processes.

  • Competency assurance. Ensure that personnel assigned to jobs have the required technical, operational, HSE and client-specific competence. Support implementation of role-based and equipment-specific competency matrices, training plans, authorisation requirements and succession development.

  • HSE and regulatory compliance. Demonstrate visible leadership in health, safety, security and environmental performance. Ensure that activities comply with applicable laws, PETRONAS and client requirements, Company procedures and the principles of stop-work authority, with no acceptance of shortcuts or deliberate non-compliance.

  • Risk and issue management. Maintain an integrated view of key regional operational, commercial, contractual, people, equipment and client risks. Ensure significant matters are escalated promptly to the General Manager and that mitigation actions are tracked to verified closure.

  • Leadership and culture. Set clear expectations, coach managers and supervisors, promote accountability and collaboration, recognise good performance and address performance or conduct concerns fairly and promptly through the Oilfield’s approved processes.

Knowledge / Experience Required for the Job

  • Minimum 15 years of relevant experience in upstream oil and gas services, preferably in well intervention, slickline, wireline, pumping, completion or related service operations.
  • At least 7 years in a managerial or senior leadership position with accountability for multi-site operations, client delivery, people, equipment, cost and business performance.
  • Demonstrated experience in resolving operational failures, improving service quality, leading incident or performance-recovery programmes and implementing sustainable corrective actions.
  • Strong working knowledge of well-intervention operations, offshore and base operations, equipment readiness, maintenance interfaces, competency assurance, HSE requirements and client governance.
  • Experience managing or supporting P&L, budgeting, cost control, resource planning, contract performance and operational risk.
  • Proven ability to engage senior clients, manage difficult performance discussions, coordinate cross-functional teams and implement operational improvements in a complex operating environment.
  • Knowledge of Malaysian upstream industry practices and PETRONAS or major operator requirements is strongly preferred. East Malaysia operating exposure is an advantage.

Academic / Professional Qualification

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Business Management or a related discipline, or an equivalent recognised qualification supported by substantial relevant industry experience.
  • Relevant professional, technical, HSE, project-management, leadership or continuous-improvement certification is an advantage.
  • Must hold or be capable of obtaining the medical, safety and client certifications required for visits to operational bases and offshore locations, where applicable.
