About the Role

Pentamaster Corporation Berhad is seeking an experienced Automation Section Head / Manager to join our engineering team in Penang. This is a full-time position that offers a strategic opportunity to lead automation initiatives and drive engineering excellence across our operations. As a key member of our technical leadership, you will be responsible for designing, implementing and optimising automated systems that enhance productivity and efficiency. This role reports to senior management and plays a pivotal part in advancing our technological capabilities and competitive position in the market.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and implement advanced automation systems and solutions tailored to operational requirements
• Lead the planning, specification and deployment of industrial automation projects from conception through to completion
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify automation opportunities and translate business requirements into technical specifications
• Oversee the integration of control systems, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), human-machine interfaces (HMIs) and related automation hardware
• Conduct feasibility studies and provide technical recommendations for automation initiatives
• Manage and mentor junior engineers and technical staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence
• Troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve complex automation system issues to minimise downtime
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations and quality requirements in all automation projects
• Prepare technical documentation, including system designs, schematics, programming specifications and operational manuals
• Stay current with emerging automation technologies and recommend innovations to enhance system performance

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Automation Engineering or Mechatronic or a related discipline
• Minimum 5-10 years of professional experience in automation engineering, with at least 3 years in a senior or managerial capacity

Required Skills

• Demonstrated expertise in PLC programming, SCADA systems and industrial control systems
• Proficiency with automation software platforms and programming languages such as IEC 61131-3, ladder logic, structured text or similar
• Strong knowledge of electrical systems, circuit design and power distribution relevant to automation applications
• Experience with CAD and simulation software for system design and validation
• Proven track record of successfully delivering complex automation projects on time and within budget
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively across departments
• Leadership capability with experience in team management and staff development
• Familiarity with industry standards including ISO, IEC and relevant safety protocols
• Professional certifications in automation engineering or related fields are highly desirable
