The Role
We are looking for passionate and results-oriented Secondary School Tutors who can teach one or more of the following subjects:
- Secondary Mathematics
- Additional Mathematics
- Secondary Science
- Physics
- Chemistry
You will be responsible not only for delivering engaging lessons, but also for helping students improve academically, building their confidence and keeping parents informed of their progress.
Key Responsibilities1. Deliver High-Quality Lessons
- Conduct engaging and structured lessons for Secondary school students.
- Explain difficult concepts in a simple and easy-to-understand manner.
- Teach effective examination techniques, answering strategies and time-management skills.
- Adapt teaching methods according to students' abilities and learning gaps.
- Ensure lessons are properly prepared before class.
2. Improve Student Results
- Identify individual students' strengths and weaknesses.
- Set clear improvement targets for students.
- Conduct regular tests, quizzes and assessments.
- Analyse mistakes and provide targeted corrective teaching.
- Track students' academic progress throughout the year.
- Take proactive action when students are not improving.
3. Student Engagement & Retention
- Build positive relationships with students while maintaining appropriate professional standards.
- Motivate weaker or less confident students.
- Monitor attendance, homework completion and participation.
- Follow up on students who are struggling or becoming disengaged.
- Work closely with Centre Managers to reduce unnecessary student dropouts.
4. Parent Communication
- Provide meaningful updates to parents on their child's progress.
- Highlight improvements, weaknesses and areas requiring additional practice.
- Recommend appropriate academic interventions where necessary.
- Communicate professionally and promptly when there are concerns about a student's performance.
5. Curriculum & Academic Support
For full-time tutors:
- Contribute to worksheets, revision materials, tests and curriculum development.
- Review and improve existing teaching materials.
- Share effective teaching and examination strategies with other tutors.
- Participate in academic and curriculum meetings.
- Support the monitoring and development of part-time tutors where required.
6. Centre Contribution
- Work closely with Centre Managers and fellow tutors to improve overall student outcomes.
- Participate in centre activities, academic programmes, holiday programmes and examination preparation initiatives.
- Support trial classes, student assessments and academic consultations where required.
- Contribute ideas to improve teaching quality, student engagement and centre performance.
RequirementsEssential
- Strong knowledge of the Secondary school subject(s) being taught.
- Able to explain concepts clearly and patiently.
- Strong communication and classroom-management skills.
- Responsible, punctual and well-prepared.
- Comfortable working with students of different academic abilities.
- Willing to be accountable for student progress rather than simply completing the syllabus.
Preferred
- Degree, diploma or relevant tertiary qualification.
- Prior tuition-centre, school or private-tutoring experience.
- Familiarity with Singapore Secondary school examinations and syllabus.
- Track record of helping students improve academically.
- Ability to teach more than one Mathematics or Science subject is an advantage.
