Role Description As an Artificial Intelligence Engineer at Fatfish AI, you will design, develop, and deploy AI models and algorithms that power intelligent embodied systems. Your day-to-day work will include building and training machine learning and deep learning models, integrating them with robotic platforms, and optimizing performance for real-time physical environments. You will collaborate closely with software, hardware, and robotics engineers to define system requirements, implement perception and decision-making modules, and validate solutions through experiments and on-site testing. This is a full-time, on-site role based in Queenstown, requiring hands-on involvement with prototypes, test environments, and production systems. You will also document your work, contribute to technical design discussions, and help continuously improve system reliability, safety, and scalability.
Qualifications

• Strong foundation in computer science or related field, with proficiency in algorithms, data structures, and software engineering principles.
• Practical experience with machine learning and deep learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn) and model deployment in production environments.
• Hands-on skills in programming languages commonly used in AI and robotics (e.g., Python, C++, or similar), and experience with version control and collaborative development tools.
• Experience working with robotics, embedded systems, or intelligent hardware, including integration, testing, and performance optimization in real-world settings.
• Ability to design experiments, analyze data, and debug complex systems, with strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
• Comfort working on-site with cross-functional teams, with clear communication skills and a collaborative, inclusive approach.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline (or equivalent practical experience).
• Experience with computer vision, sensor fusion, reinforcement learning, or real-time systems is highly beneficial.
• Familiarity with safety, reliability, and compliance considerations for physical systems operating alongside people is an advantage.
