About JOM
JOM is an AI-native HR and talent-development platform used across Southeast Asia by category-defining leaders in retail, healthcare, property and manufacturing — companies with billions in revenue. Our product blends voice-AI coaching, competency mapping, BARS-scored roleplay, and workforce-intelligence dashboards. We're entering an aggressive growth phase and want someone to start by early October.
The role
KL-based hybrid role with flexible hours. Technical lead owning the product end-to-end. You'll work directly with the founding team, make and defend architecture decisions, and mentor a junior engineer.
What we offer
- Competitive salary plus meaningful equity in JOM (ESOP, standard vesting)
- Flexible hybrid working — with team meetups as appropriate and occasional client meetings.
- A senior seat with ownership: you'll shape the product and its architecture alongside the founding team.
- An elite team — roots at Cambridge and Imperial, experience at leading global tech companies.
Responsibilities
- Own product features across backend and frontend, customer discovery and technical design through deployment and production support.
- Partner with the CEO and enterprise customers to define requirements, shape the roadmap, and make pragmatic product and technical trade-offs.
- Act as the company’s technical decision-maker, with ownership of architecture, APIs, data models, infrastructure, security, and technical debt.
- Establish and maintain engineering standards across code review, automated testing, observability, CI/CD, security, and enterprise data handling.
- Build and improve LLM- and voice-AI features, including model integration, prompt orchestration, evaluation, and the reliability of AI-generated scoring and coaching.
- Own production reliability and incident response, working with the CEO on customer communication and escalation.
- Scope work for a junior engineer, review their code, unblock delivery, and support their feedback and professional growth.
- Participate in enterprise customer meetings, including product discovery, technical discussions, and security or integration conversations.
You should have
- 3+ years of experience shipping and maintaining production software, or an equivalent track record demonstrating strong technical ownership, ideally for B2B products.
- Experience independently owning meaningful systems or product areas from design through production operations
- Experience designing APIs and data models using MongoDB or other production databases.
- Strong knowledge in TypeScript
- Hands-on experience building and shipping LLM-powered features using Gemini, OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar providers.
- Experience deploying containerised services to GCP, AWS, or an equivalent cloud environment.
- Experience with AI coding assistants (Claude, Codex, and similar)
- Background in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Strong communication skills and comfort working directly with a CEO, customers, and less-experienced engineers.
- Ready for early-stage team: hands-on, pragmatic, comfortable owning ambiguity.
You’ll be a right fit even if you don’t check all of these boxes, but can demonstrate knowledge in these areas and an ability to learn quickly.
Our current stack
- TypeScript
- React and NextJS
- MongoDB
- Vercel
- GCP (Gemini)
- AWS
- Posthog
Direct experience with every part of our stack is not required, we’re looking for someone who has worked with comparable technologies and is able to learn quickly.
What success looks like
Within your first few months, you will be able to operate and evolve the platform independently, make well-reasoned technical decisions, ship reliable product improvements, and create enough structure for a junior engineer to contribute effectively.
Over time, you will help turn customer needs into a coherent product and technical roadmap while building the foundation, and eventually the team needed for the company’s next stage of growth.
