About Merican Holdings Sdn Bhd

Established in 2020, Merican Holdings Sdn. Bhd. is a company based in Kota Damansara that operates in the food and beverage industry. It is the owner of a homegrown dessert café brand called Oh Apong. Oh Apong’s flagship café began operations in June 2021, at the height of the global Covid-19 pandemic and has since served gula apong-based delights like ice cream, specialty coffee, pastries and other desserts to locals and foreigners within the vicinity.

Oh Apong aims to be a cosy neigbourhood meeting place, a part of the humdrum of everyday life where folks can unwind and catch up with their family and friends, enjoy some alone time and/or get their work done. Despite operating in these trying times and for less than a year, Oh Apong is fast becoming a favourite hangout spot for the community that it serves.

Merican Holdings Sdn Bhd’s business model is by way of licensing to increase its brand presence and it is paving the way by launching three new outlets in Q1 of 2022 – one being a “coffee bar” concept within Setia City Mall’s latest Fashion Journal space and two other outlets in gateway@klia2.

With Oh Apong, the company hopes to preserve this unique Sarawakian slow food with its purchases and empower the local community of gula apong makers/collectors by providing a sustainable income to them, thus improving their livelihoods. The company also strives to put gula apong on the global food stage someday so that more people can savour the aromatic taste of gula apong-based products.
