Tentang Port Klang Authority
Established in 1963 as a statutory corporation, Port Klang Authority (PKA) was entrusted with the task of taking over the administration of the port from the Malayan Railway. Then, in 1983, the PKA’s functions, powers, duties and jurisdictions were extended to the Port of Malacca in Tanjung Bruas. Since then, the PKA has assumed five core functions:
Trade facilitation
Port planning and development
Regulatory oversight of privatised facilities and services
Free Zone Authority
Asset management
Today, PKA continues to help the ports under its administration to move forward and grow, in order to face 21st century challenges. The PKA is also noted for spearheading many of the country's firsts, such as the Ipoh Cargo Terminal, the country's first inland port; the Port Klang Distribution Park, the country's first distripark; and the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ), the country's first intergrated free zone.
To facilitate trade even further, the PKA has implemented a variety of port services, such as the One-Stop Agency, Free Commercial Zone, as well as Bunkering and Ancillary Services. The PKA's implementation of the Vessel Traffic Management and EDI Port Klang Community Systems have also made port administration more streamlined and efficient.
Over the years, the PKA has helped both ports to become more successful, with the aim of turning them into major national and regional maritime transshipment hubs in the near future.
