Sek Me Choy’s Bak Kut Teh has had a history of about 30 years, it is one of the first shops in the whole of Malaysia to start making Pepper Bak Kut Teh. In 2006, it was chosen as one of the “Top 20 National Kings of Bak Kut Teh”.
 
The owner was originally a business man who owned many tin mining grounds. During the 1986, when the prices of tin worldwide suddenly dropped, he was reluctantly forced to let go of his properties and turn to the restaurant trade instead. He started by selling his favorite dish, Pepper Bak Kut Teh, and named the restaurant after himself, “Sek Me Choy”. From then on, the Pepper Bak Kut Teh and tin mining has had close ties to the people within the restaurant. If there was no tin mining, the restaurant would not have been started.
