Agronomist — Job Description
Job Title: Agronomist
Department: Agriculture / Plantation / Farm Operations
Reports To: Farm Manager / Agricultural Manager
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor crop growth, health, yield, and overall field performance.
- Conduct field inspections and identify pest, disease, nutrient, soil, and irrigation problems.
- Recommend appropriate fertilizers, pesticides, crop treatments, and cultivation practices.
- Conduct soil, leaf, plant, and water sampling and interpret test results.
- Develop and implement crop management, fertilization, and pest/disease-control programs.
- Collect and analyse agronomic data such as crop performance, rainfall, soil conditions, and yield.
- Conduct field trials and evaluate new agricultural products, varieties, and farming techniques.
- Provide technical advice and training to farm workers and management.
- Prepare technical reports and recommend improvements to increase productivity, quality, and sustainability.
- Ensure agricultural activities follow relevant Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and company standards.
These responsibilities are consistent with Malaysia's official occupational description for agronomists, which includes crop-production research, pest/disease control, yield improvement, and detailed record keeping. EeMASCO+1
Requirements
- Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Agronomy, Agriculture, Plant Science, Horticulture, Plantation Management, or a related field.
- Fresh graduates may be considered for junior positions; relevant experience is an advantage.
- Knowledge of soil science, plant nutrition, crop physiology, pest and disease management.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and reporting skills.
- Willingness to work in the field and travel when required.
Pay: RM4,500.00 - RM6,500.00 per month
