Job Description:

We are looking for a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer to support the design, construction, commissioning, and operation of mission-critical data center facilities.

This role will be responsible for critical cooling infrastructure, HVAC systems, commissioning activities, operational reliability, and energy-efficiency initiatives that ensure our facilities achieve the highest levels of availability and performance.

Key Responsibilities:

Mechanical Design & Engineering

  • Review and develop mechanical designs, calculations, specifications, drawings, and technical documentation for data center facilities.
  • Support the design and review of HVAC and cooling infrastructure for mission-critical environments.
  • Perform cooling load calculations and equipment capacity assessments.
  • Review chilled water systems including chillers, pumps, piping networks, valves, heat exchangers, and associated equipment.
  • Review air-side systems including CRAH/CRAC units, AHUs, ventilation systems, ductwork, dampers, and air distribution systems.
  • Evaluate redundancy, maintainability, reliability, scalability, and operational performance requirements.
  • Review P&IDs, control schematics, equipment layouts, and control sequences.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable local and international engineering standards.

Critical Cooling Systems

  • Provide engineering support for chillers, cooling towers, dry coolers, heat exchangers, pumps, CRAH/CRAC units, and chilled water systems.
  • Support redundancy strategies including N+1, 2N, and distributed-redundant configurations.
  • Validate cooling capacity requirements against current and future IT demands.
  • Monitor key operating parameters including temperature, flow rates, differential pressure, and system performance.
  • Support cooling optimization initiatives focused on energy efficiency and PUE improvement.
  • Evaluate failure scenarios and ensure environmental conditions remain within operational requirements.

Construction & Installation

  • Monitor mechanical installation activities and ensure compliance with approved drawings and specifications.
  • Inspect installation of chillers, pumps, cooling towers, CRAH/CRAC units, AHUs, piping systems, valves, ductwork, insulation, and associated equipment.
  • Review shop drawings, RFIs, technical submissions, equipment submittals, and method statements.
  • Coordinate with electrical, architectural, structural, controls, and MEP teams throughout project delivery.
  • Resolve technical and construction-related issues while ensuring maintainability and operational accessibility.

Testing & Commissioning

  • Support pre-commissioning, commissioning, and startup activities for mechanical systems.
  • Participate in FAT, SAT, functional testing, performance testing, and Integrated Systems Testing (IST).
  • Support commissioning of chillers, pumps, cooling towers, CRAH/CRAC units, heat exchangers, and associated control systems.
  • Verify chilled water flow, pressure, temperatures, and overall system performance.
  • Review mechanical control sequences and failure-response scenarios.
  • Participate in integrated testing of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Support simulated failure testing of redundant cooling infrastructure.
  • Review commissioning reports, punch lists, deficiencies, and test documentation.

Operations & Maintenance

  • Support operation and maintenance of critical cooling and HVAC infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures, alarms, temperature excursions, pressure issues, and flow-related abnormalities.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
  • Review preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs.
  • Develop and maintain SOPs, MOPs, and EOPs.
  • Monitor performance and identify opportunities for optimization and sustainability improvements.
  • Support capacity planning and future mechanical infrastructure upgrades.
  • Maintain accurate records, drawings, technical documentation, and as-built information.

BMS & Controls

  • Collaborate with BMS and Controls teams to ensure proper monitoring and control of mechanical systems.
  • Review control logic, points lists, alarms, interlocks, operating sequences, and equipment status.
  • Utilize BMS, DDC, and EPMS platforms to monitor and optimize system performance.
  • Support development and validation of automatic changeover and failure-response sequences.

Energy Efficiency & Sustainability

  • Monitor mechanical system energy consumption and operational efficiency.
  • Support initiatives aimed at reducing cooling energy usage and improving Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE).
  • Analyze chiller, cooling tower, pump, and CRAH/CRAC performance data.
  • Identify opportunities for free cooling, variable speed technologies, optimized operating temperatures, and other energy-saving measures.
  • Support measurement, verification, and reporting of sustainability initiatives.

Safety & Compliance

  • Promote a strong culture of safety and operational excellence.
  • Participate in risk assessments, permit-to-work processes, and safety reviews.
  • Support safe isolation and maintenance of mechanical systems.
  • Review risk assessments and method statements for mechanical works.
  • Ensure compliance with local authority requirements, environmental regulations, and international standards.
