About AQSolotl
AQSolotl is a quantum technology company committed to accelerating practical quantum computing. We develop and deliver advanced hardware controllers that bridge classical computing with quantum processors, enabling scalable, economical and high-performance qubit control. Our mission is to empower industry innovators to integrate quantum capabilities into real-world applications.
About the Role
We are seeking an Intermediate/Senior Microwave Engineer to contribute to the development and testing of high-performance microwave hardware for quantum computing systems. You will design, develop, test, troubleshoot, and optimize microwave systems for advanced quantum computing hardware. This role focuses on system-level microwave (MW) architecture, hardware implementation, and laboratory validation. You will work closely with physicists and FPGA engineers to test high-performance microwave control systems, plan and design subsystems.
Responsibilities
- Perform testing and validation of microwave components, devices, signals and applications and preparing test documentations and reports.
- Select, evaluate, and characterize MW components including mixers, amplifiers, filters, and switches.
- Set up and maintain microwave test benches and measurement procedures.
- Assist in evaluating and troubleshooting microwave signal subsystem performances.
- Conduct microwave measurements and characterization using MW instrumentation.
- Integrate microwave subsystems with experimental platforms and troubleshoot hardware issues during development.
- Oversee certification testing and resolve technical issues to ensure compliance with relevant standards.
Technical Skills
- Experience handling sensitive microwave connectors and components.
- Hands-on experience with microwave test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers, microwave signal sources, and power meters.
- Familiar with microwave calibration techniques and good RF measurement practices.
- Able to evaluate and characterize RF component performance including S-parameters metrics (return loss, insertion loss, gain, isolation), noise figure, IP3, P1dB, IMD, and harmonic distortions.
- Able to characterize signal quality such as jitter, phase noise, SFDR, dynamic range, signal-to-noise ratio, spurious tones, noise floor, cross-talks, etc.
- Able to design and implement impedance-controlled microwave circuits and PCBs. Familiar with transmission line structures and high frequency requirements such as stripline, microstrip, and coplanar waveguide (CPW), via fencing, and grounding techniques, etc.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in microwave engineering or related fields. Candidates in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or in a related field with strong microwave project experience are encouraged to apply.
- Preferably 5+ years of experience in microwave engineering up to ~10 GHz.
- Solid understanding of RF and microwave engineering principles.
- Hands-on laboratory experience in microwave measurements.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills.
- Able to work independently, provide trainings and strategic guidance.
- Good command of English.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with measurement automation using Python, MATLAB, or similar tools.
- Experience with Keysight ADS for MW circuit design and analysis
- Familiarity with RFSoC-based high-speed DAC/ADC platforms
- Experience with FPGA-based control systems
- Knowledge of microwave up/down-conversion bridge
