Role Description

As a Design Engineer (Mechanical) at Veenco, you will be responsible for designing and developing detailed 3D models and technical drawings for switchboard sheet-metal parts, components and assemblies.

You will manage the design-to-fabrication process, translating project and client specifications into accurate, manufacturable designs from order intake through production release. You will work closely with project and fabrication teams to ensure designs meet functional requirements, safety standards and manufacturing constraints.

Key Responsibilities

* Create and develop detailed 3D models and technical drawings for switchboard sheet-metal parts, components and assemblies using SolidWorks, with AutoCAD for 2D reference drawings.

* Translate project and client specifications into accurate and manufacturable designs, taking into consideration sheet-metal properties and fabrication limitations.

* Work closely with the fabrication and production teams to assess design feasibility, resolve manufacturing issues and support on-time project delivery.

* Prepare and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOM) and routing details, supporting ERP-driven production workflows.

* Identify, document and resolve design issues, recommending corrective actions to improve design quality and manufacturability.

* Support prototyping and mock-ups of switchboard components and work with fabrication teams to troubleshoot sheet-metal-related issues.

* Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards, safety requirements and Veenco’s internal technical requirements.

* Maintain CAD files, design libraries, drawing templates and revision control in accordance with company standards.

* Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to optimise switchboard design, improve manufacturing efficiency and reduce material waste.

* Maintain accurate design documentation and communicate project and design status effectively with project and fabrication stakeholders.

Qualifications & Skills

* Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design or a related field.

* Minimum 2 years of experience in mechanical or product design, preferably with exposure to switchboards, electrical enclosures or sheet-metal manufacturing.

* Proficient in SolidWorks 3D design with working knowledge of AutoCAD 2D drawings.

* Strong understanding of sheet-metal design, fabrication processes and material properties.

* Able to read and interpret technical drawings and engineering specifications with strong attention to detail.

* Good organisational, documentation and communication skills.

* Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word.

* Exposure to ERP-driven production workflows is an advantage.

Good to Have

* Basic knowledge of electrical design or experience working with electrical enclosures.

* Experience preparing work instructions or assembly documentation for shopfloor use.

* Exposure to lean manufacturing or continuous improvement practices.
