- Department: Production / Machining
- Reports To: Production Supervisor / Machining Manager
- Location: Simpang Ampat
- Employment Type: Full-Time
Job Purpose
The CNC Setter & Programmer is responsible for writing, editing, and optimizing CNC programs, as well as setting up CNC machines ([Milling / Turning / Multi-axis]) to produce high-precision metal and plastic components (including materials like SS316, Aluminum, and engineering plastics) according to strict technical engineering blueprints and tolerances.Key Responsibilities
- Programming & Simulation: Write, modify, and optimize CNC programs using [G-code / M-code / CAD-CAM software like Mastercam / SolidCAM]. Prove out new programs virtually and on the machine to ensure clash-free operations.
- Machine Setup: Install, align, and secure work-holding fixtures, chucks, and cutting tools. Set work coordinates (work offsets) and tool height offsets accurately.
- First-Article Inspection: Run the "First Piece" component, perform dimensional checks using precision measuring tools (Micrometers, Calipers, CMM, or Smart Scopes), and adjust machine parameters until the part meets blueprint specs.
- Process Optimization: Fine-tune cutting speeds, feed rates, and depth of cuts to reduce cycle times, maximize tool life, and maintain surface finish quality (especially when cutting tough materials like Stainless Steel 316).
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve programming errors, tooling issues, machine alarms, or mechanical inconsistencies during the production run.
- Maintenance & Safety: Perform routine daily maintenance checks on machines (coolant levels, lubrication) and strictly adhere to manufacturing safety guidelines.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Professional Certificate, Diploma, or Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Precision Machining, Tool & Die Making, or an equivalent technical trade.
- Experience: Minimum of 1-3 years of hands-on experience as a CNC Setter and Programmer in a precision manufacturing environment.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficient in operating and programming [Fanuc / Siemens / Heidenhain / Mazatrol] controllers.
- Experience with [3-Axis / 5-Axis Milling Centers / CNC Lathes / Swiss-turn machines].
- Strong ability to read and interpret complex Engineering Drawings and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) symbols.
- Soft Skills: Strong analytical problem-solving skills, close attention to detail, and the ability to work independently under tight production schedules.
