Job Description

Responsibilities

EHS Consultant | Data Centre Construction

Johor Bahru, Malaysia

12-Month Consultancy Contract | 3 Positions (1 x Day Shift, 2 x Night Shift)

SP Data Centres is continuing its growth across Malaysia and is seeking experienced EHS Consultants to be seconded into a leading data centre developer as part of a client-side scope of works.

You will be embedded within the client's project team on a major hyperscale data centre construction program, providing independent EHS oversight and assurance across principal contractors, consultants, and the wider supply chain. This opportunity suits an established EHS professional with solid experience on complex, high-risk construction projects and the confidence to engage directly with senior stakeholders.

You will play a key role in driving safety governance, influencing project culture, and ensuring world-class EHS standards are embedded throughout project delivery, around the clock.

The Engagement

  • 3 positions available across two shifts:
  • 1 x Day Shift: 8:00am to 5:00pm
  • 2 x Late/Night Shift: 5:00pm to 2:00am
  • 6 days per week, 9 hours per day (54 hours per week)
  • Initial 12-month contract, with strong extension prospects given the project pipeline and current phase of delivery
  • Strictly a consultancy engagement. The successful candidate will operate as a self-employed independent consultant, invoicing Shirley Parsons directly

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide client-side EHS oversight across major construction works, ensuring alignment with the client's corporate standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practice
  • Conduct governance-level inspections, audits, and assurance reviews across contractors and supply chain partners
  • Evaluate contractor safety management systems, risk controls, permit-to-work processes, investigations, and corrective action programs
  • Maintain consistent EHS oversight across shift handovers, with a particular focus on the risk profile of night works
  • Monitor leading and lagging indicators to identify trends, drive accountability, and support continuous improvement
  • Partner closely with the client's project team, contractors, and leadership stakeholders to influence a proactive safety culture
  • Support incident investigations, emergency preparedness reviews, and ongoing EHS performance reporting

What We're Looking For

  • Roughly 6 to 8 years' experience in EHS roles within construction environments
  • Construction experience is key. We're open to backgrounds across data centres, major infrastructure, high-rise residential, commercial, industrial, energy, or other large-scale building projects. Data centre experience is a bonus, not a must
  • Excellent knowledge of Malaysian EHS legislation and international frameworks such as ISO 45001 and OSHA standards
  • Demonstrated experience influencing contractors and stakeholders in fast-paced project environments
  • Strong analytical capability, with experience interpreting EHS data, trends, audits, and performance metrics
  • Degree qualified in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Professional certifications such as NEBOSH, CSP, CMIOSH, or equivalent highly regarded
  • Comfortable operating as an independent consultant, and available for the shift pattern applied for

Why Join?

  • Seconded client-side into one of the region's leading data centre developers
  • Exposure to large-scale, mission-critical hyperscale developments in one of Asia's fastest-growing data centre markets
  • A strong platform for construction EHS professionals looking to move into the data centre sector
  • 12-month initial term with genuine longevity, backed by a strong forward project pipeline
  • Collaborative, high-performing project environment with strong leadership support

If you are an experienced construction EHS professional looking to contribute to industry-leading projects and influence best-in-class safety outcomes, we'd welcome your interest.
