Job Title: Mystery Shopper – Competitive Intelligence & Brand Protection (Lighting Products)

About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and discreet mystery shopper to support brand protection and competitive intelligence efforts for our patented lighting products and related technologies. The successful candidate will visit retail outlets, showrooms, and distributor locations to observe, document, and report on competitor products and sales practices — with a specific focus on identifying potential patent infringement and unauthorized use of our brand or product claims.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct in-person and/or online visits to competitor retailers, distributors, and showrooms as directed
• Observe and document product displays, packaging, marketing claims, and pricing of items that may resemble or infringe on our patented designs
• Engage naturally with sales staff to ask standard customer questions (e.g., product features, materials, installation, comparisons to "coveless cove lights" or similar categories) without disclosing your identity or purpose
• Accurately record staff responses, including any specific claims made about product origin, technology, or comparisons to our brand
• Take photographs or videos of publicly displayed products and marketing materials where permitted
• Compile detailed, timestamped written reports after each visit, noting location, staff statements (as close to verbatim as possible), and any physical evidence collected
• Maintain strict confidentiality regarding the purpose of the assignment and the client's identity
• Flag any products, packaging, or claims that closely resemble our patented features for further legal review

Requirements

• Prior experience in mystery shopping, market research, or competitive intelligence preferred
• Excellent observational and note-taking skills; strong attention to detail
• Ability to communicate naturally and blend in as a genuine customer
• Comfortable operating independently and following a structured visit protocol/script
• Discretion and professionalism; ability to maintain confidentiality
• Familiarity with lighting/home improvement retail environments is a plus
• Based in or able to travel within Singapore (and other relevant markets, if applicable)

Deliverables

• A standardized visit report template completed for each shop visit
• Photo/video evidence (where legally permissible)
• A summary log of all locations visited and findings

• All information gathering must comply with local laws regarding recording, privacy, and trade practices — audio/video recording rules vary by location and venue, so guidance will be provided per assignment.
• This role supports internal brand protection and potential IP enforcement efforts; all evidence collected may be used to inform legal action, so accuracy and honesty in reporting are essential.
• This is not a sales or negotiation role — the shopper should not make purchases or claims that could be construed as entrapment.

This is role requires the person to have professional proven experience as a mystery shopper.
