CAD Drafter – Laser Cutting, CNC Router & Product Development

Salary: RM3,000 – RM3,800 per month

Working Hours:
Monday–Friday: 9:00 AM–6:00 PM
Saturday: 9:00 AM–3:00 PM
Sunday: Rest Day

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced CAD Drafter – Laser Cutting, CNC Router & Product Development to prepare accurate AutoCAD drawings and production-ready files for laser cutting, CNC router work, fabrication and product development.

You will convert customer requirements, sketches, photographs, samples and measurements into practical production drawings. You will also support new-product development, sample preparation, drawing revisions and improvements to existing products.

This is a hands-on individual-contributor role with no team-management responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate 2D AutoCAD drawings for laser cutting, CNC router work and fabrication.
• Convert customer sketches, photographs, samples, dimensions and measurements into production-ready drawings.
• Prepare cutting outlines, holes, slots, engraving areas, joints, assembly details and production notes.
• Check material type, thickness, dimensions, scale, fitting clearances and fabrication requirements.
• Ensure drawings are accurate, complete and suitable for actual production.
• Prepare and export appropriate drawing/file formats according to production requirements.
• Arrange cutting layouts to improve material utilization and reduce wastage where applicable.
• Modify drawings based on customer confirmation, sample results and production feedback.
• Support research and development of new products, materials and fabrication methods.
• Assist in developing new standard and customized products.
• Coordinate samples, mock-ups and prototypes with Production and suppliers.
• Check completed samples against approved drawings and product specifications.
• Revise drawings following testing, sampling or production feedback.
• Improve existing products based on functionality, appearance, material usage, cost and production efficiency.
• Maintain organized drawing files, revision records and product-development documentation.
• Coordinate with Sales, Production, Purchasing, suppliers and Management when required.
• Troubleshoot and resolve drawing-related issues during sampling and production.

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years of relevant working experience in AutoCAD drafting, laser-cutting drawings, CNC-router drawings, fabrication design, manufacturing design, product design or product development.
• Diploma or Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Mechanical Design, Manufacturing Design, Engineering Design or a related discipline.
• Candidates without the stated academic qualification may still be considered if they have strong relevant experience and a suitable portfolio.
• Strong proficiency in AutoCAD is required.
• Able to prepare accurate 2D technical, fabrication and production drawings.
• Able to convert sketches, photographs, physical samples and measurements into production-ready drawings.
• Good understanding of dimensions, scale, material thickness, fitting, joints, clearances and assembly.
• Strong attention to detail and drawing accuracy.
• Able to work independently with limited supervision.
• Able to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
• Good problem-solving and communication skills.

Shortlisted candidates should be prepared to provide relevant work samples such as:

• AutoCAD drawings
• Laser-cutting or CNC-router drawings
• Technical/fabrication drawings
• Production drawings
• Products developed from sketches, photographs, samples or measurements
• Product-development projects
• Drawing revisions
• Samples, prototypes or completed products

Candidates should explain their actual contribution to each submitted project.

Confidential information belonging to previous employers should not be disclosed. Redacted or publicly available work samples are acceptable.

Shortlisted candidates may be required to complete a practical AutoCAD assessment.
