Key Responsibilities
- Provide housecall nursing care for dogs, cats and other companion animals
- Administer prescribed medications, injections and subcutaneous fluids
- Perform basic wound cleaning, dressing and bandage changes
- Assist with blood collection and other veterinary procedures
- Perform manual bladder expression where appropriate and instructed
- Support assisted feeding and feeding-tube care
- Measure and record relevant patient parameters such as blood pressure and other observations
- Assist veterinarians during housecall consultations and procedures
- Provide safe and appropriate animal handling and restraint
- Prepare and maintain medical equipment, medications and consumables required for appointments
- Maintain accurate records of nursing care provided
- Follow infection control, medication handling and patient safety protocols
- Communicate clearly and compassionately with pet owners regarding nursing instructions and aftercare
- Escalate changes or concerns regarding a patient's condition to the attending veterinarian or appropriate clinical team
- Support palliative, hospice and end-of-life patients where required
- Assist with other veterinary and operational duties where necessary
