1. ROLE PURPOSE & STRATEGIC CONTEXT
The Sales Executive (Fragrance - Hunter) owns the route for NSTY's new fragrance line in the assigned state. The role secures shelf placement and testers, enables retail staff to sell, keeps stock moving, and turns first trial into repeat orders.
This is a hunter role: success is measured by new doors opened, sell-in revenue and repeat orders from the assigned territory - not by visits completed for their own sake. The Executive is expected to build the territory account by account, across modern trade, pharmacy & beauty, petrol mart and dealer networks, and to protect what has been opened through disciplined in-store execution and stock management.
Primary mandate: Grow fragrance sell-in and sell-through in the assigned state by opening new accounts, executing in-store fundamentals, enabling retail staff and managing reorder cycles. Market: Malaysia (assigned state). Role level: Executive / individual contributor.
2. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
2.1 Territory & Route Coverage
· Plan and run a weekly route covering the assigned state.
· Hold visit frequency by account tier, prioritising high-potential and high-volume accounts.
· Maintain an up-to-date account list with tiering, status and next actions for every door.
· Balance time between opening new accounts and servicing existing ones.
· Adjust the route based on sales performance, stock position and campaign priorities.
2.2 Account Development (Hunting)
· Identify, approach and open new accounts across modern trade, pharmacy & beauty, petrol mart and dealer networks.
· Pitch the fragrance line, negotiate first orders and secure shelf placement and tester positions.
· Convert first orders into a regular reorder cycle.
· Build a pipeline of prospect accounts per channel and track conversion from prospect to active account.
· Maintain strong working relationships with store owners, managers and buyers.
· Escalate pricing, listing-fee or trading-term requests beyond approved limits before committing.
2.3 In-Store Execution & Merchandising
· Ensure testers are on the counter, working and presentable at every active account.
· Maintain planogram compliance, product facing and shelf visibility.
· Deploy POS materials and keep displays clean, stocked and current.
· Check pricing display and promotional mechanics are correctly implemented in store.
· Photograph and report in-store execution as part of visit documentation.
2.4 Retail Staff Enablement
· Train shop staff on the product range, scent storytelling and objection handling.
· Refresh training when new products launch or staff turn over.
· Equip staff with the key selling points, target customer and recommended pitch for each fragrance.
· Identify and support the strongest in-store advocates at priority accounts.
· Gather feedback from retail staff on customer response, objections and competitor activity.
2.5 Stock & Sell-Through Management
· Monitor stock levels at every active account and prevent out-of-stocks on core SKUs.
· Manage reorder timing with the account so stock arrives before it runs out.
· Track sell-through by account and SKU, and act on slow movers before they become returns.
· Coordinate stock availability and delivery follow-up with the fulfilment / operations team.
· Flag aging stock, damaged goods or display issues and resolve them with the account.
2.6 Roadshows & Activations
· Plan and run mall activations and roadshows in the assigned state as scheduled.
· Prepare stock, testers, POS materials and manpower requirements ahead of each activation.
· Drive trial and on-the-spot sales during activations and capture leads for nearby retail accounts.
· Complete a post-activation summary covering sales, traffic, learnings and follow-up actions.
2.7 Reporting & Sales Administration
· Submit weekly visit, sales and competitor reports on time and in the agreed format.
· Report using a Target -> Actual -> Gap -> Diagnosis -> Action structure, recommending the next commercial move.
· Keep account records, order documentation and collections status accurate and current.
· Share market intelligence: competitor launches, pricing moves, promotions and channel developments.
· Escalate risks to the territory target early rather than at month-end.
3. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
3.1 Minimum Qualifications
· 1-3 years of field sales, route sales or retail distribution experience.
· Proven ability to open new retail accounts and close first orders.
· Comfortable carrying a monthly sales target with a commission-based earning structure.
· Basic merchandising and in-store execution knowledge (testers, planogram, POS).
· Own transport and a valid driving licence; willing to travel daily within the assigned state.
· Able to plan and run a weekly route independently with minimal supervision.
· Disciplined reporting habits: visit logs, sales reports and competitor updates.
· Conversant in Bahasa Malaysia and English; able to train and persuade retail staff.
3.2 Preferred Qualifications
· Fragrance, beauty, personal care or FMCG sales experience.
· Existing relationships with pharmacy & beauty chains, petrol marts or dealer networks in Melaka, Johor Bahru or Perak.
· Experience running mall activations or roadshows.
· Based in, or willing to be based in, the assigned state.
· Track record of before / after numbers: doors opened, territory revenue growth or sell-through improvement.
