The Zephyr Show is looking for a freelance video editor to help edit long-form interview episodes on a recurring project basis.

The show features long-form conversations with creators, entrepreneurs, public figures and people with interesting stories and perspectives.

This is not a heavily stylized or effects-heavy editing role. The visual format of the Show is already established. I’m looking for someone with good editorial judgment who can take a long conversation and turn it into a clean, natural and professionally paced finished episode while preserving the feeling of a real conversation.

The initial engagement will be a paid test episode, with the possibility of recurring freelance work if we work well together.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

For each episode, you would typically:

• Edit as you watch the full interview and understand the conversation. (possible skimming first)
• Remove unnecessary dead space, awkwardly long pauses and obvious verbal stumbles where appropriate.
• Clean up occasional ums, ahs or repetitions when they interrupt the flow, without over-editing natural speech.
• Preserve the conversational rhythm rather than turning the episode into constant jump cuts - I'm not looking for fancy editing, yet, but this role could possibly grow into that.
• Identify several interesting moments for a purpose I will tell you more about on an interview call.
• Add existing Show graphics, intro/title slates, overlays, transitions and supplied assets.
• Export and return the completed video according to supplied specifications, preferably maintaining the same specs as the imported files, to prevent needless compression, encoding, re-encoding etc multiple times (basically, you need to understand your video editing software a little).

All recurring Show graphics, slates, overlays, music and other assets will be provided.

Audio mixing and mastering are not part of the initial role. Final audio is currently handled separately by me as I'm a music degree holder and music producer. Eventually though, if you're skilled in this department, the role could grow into that as well, or another hire will handle that.

WHAT I’M LOOKING FOR

• Reasonably strong conversational English comprehension - unfortunately people with weak English could pose some difficulties to the natural flow of work, due to the nature of the work.
• Basic observational skills for where sentences, ideas and conversational beats begin and end.
• Good judgment about when an edit improves pacing and when leaving something alone is better.
• Attention to detail - so we vibe.
• Reliability and good communication and updates.
• Ability to follow an established format consistently rather than redesigning the Show each episode.
• Comfortable editing in iMovie, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, CapCut Desktop OR equivalent video-editing software. You only need to know one. Basic iMovie knowledge is enough for the edits required.
• You need to have a SOLID computer of your own. If your computer is breaking down, you constantly need to repair external drives or don't already have enough RAM or hard drive space, do not apply. The edits are simple, but the file sizes can be HUGE. Your processor needs to be tougher than you. For reference, I use an M4 Pro, 4TB, 48GB Ram. You don't need the same large specs, of course, but your computer has to work. Has to.

You do not need to be a senior editor.

Students, recent graduates and early-career editors are welcome to apply if you have solid editing instincts, strong English comprehension and can work reliably.

THIS ROLE IS NOT PRIMARILY:

• Short-form Reels or TikTok editing.
• Heavy motion graphics.
• Elaborate visual effects.
• Colour-grading-intensive commercial work.
• Audio engineering or podcast mastering.
• A role where you are expected to reinvent the visual identity of every episode.

The goal is clean, efficient long-form storytelling and consistency.

INITIAL ARRANGEMENT

We will begin with one paid test episode.

If the collaboration works well, there may be (probably WILL be, as that's the point of looking for someone) additional episodes and potentially an ongoing freelance relationship as The Zephyr Show continues producing new interviews.

There is no full-time commitment required at this stage (unless you are confirmed, and we say ok 3 (or 10), episodes for this month. We will be in constant communication, of course.

• A short introduction about yourself. Please do not bother with fancy CVs (unless you already have a designed one lying around and/or you're into visuals (be yourself)). Simple text and links are enough. But, feel free to be you. If you want to send a YouTube unlisted video explaining what you do, be my guest. I don't judge that way. You will not get preference because your application is fancier than someone else's.
• Your location and time zone.
• The editing software you normally use or know how to use BEST. Just tell me your best one.
• Links to 2–3 examples of your best relevant work, ideally interviews, podcasts, conversations or other long-form content. For this part, go as fancy as you please. However, as an example, if you send me a Vimeo link which is behind 6 firewalls, and 8 passwords, this WILL work against you in the interview process. That is guaranteed. I value efficiency, clarity, and ease, when working.
• Your typical turnaround time for a long-form interview edit of 1-1.5 hours where you are cutting out obviously unpublishable material, and creating a highlight section by copy pasting interesting parts (maybe 2 - 4 minutes of highlights in the same horizontal format, no special editing).
• Your availability for recurring freelance work if the test goes well.

If your portfolio is mostly short-form, you can still apply. Just explain why you think you would be a good fit for long-form conversational editing. Also, on the side, I might be looking for someone for short form, as well. So no harm sending it in. Just state in your application which role you're applying for, and you can apply for both, if you're basically... free.
