The Opportunity
We are seeking a seasoned, commercially astute, and transformational Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join our Executive Leadership Team and play a pivotal role in shaping the next phase of growth for a diversified group with operations spanning manufacturing, wholesale, distribution, and services.
This is more than a finance leadership position. We are looking for a highly influential business leader with the executive presence, credibility, and strategic mindset to operate effectively at Board and Executive Committee level, while maintaining a hands-on approach to driving operational excellence, organizational effectiveness, and business transformation.
The successful candidate will lead a finance organization of approximately 40 professionals and serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO, Board of Directors, shareholders, financial institutions, regulators, and key commercial stakeholders. The role requires a leader who can balance strategic vision with operational execution, challenge conventional thinking, and build a finance function that enables sustainable growth and enhanced business performance.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Business Partnership
- Serve as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, contributing to enterprise-wide strategy development and execution.
- Partner closely with the CEO and business leaders to drive profitable growth, operational efficiency, and long-term value creation.
- Provide strategic and commercial insights to support investment decisions, business expansion, capital allocation, acquisitions, restructuring initiatives, and performance improvement programs.
- Act as a trusted advisor to the Board, offering objective financial, operational, and business perspectives to support informed decision-making.
- Drive a performance-oriented culture through meaningful financial and operational KPIs.
Finance Transformation & Organizational Effectiveness
- Lead the review, redesign, and optimization of the finance function to elevate its role as a strategic business partner.
- Assess and restructure organizational design, team capabilities, and reporting structures to improve efficiency, accountability, and scalability.
- Drive continuous improvement across finance operations, systems, processes, controls, and governance frameworks.
- Champion digitalization, process automation, and data-driven decision-making to improve organizational effectiveness.
- Build a high-performing team environment through leadership development, succession planning, talent assessment, and capability enhancement.
Operational & Commercial Leadership
- Maintain oversight of budgeting, forecasting, treasury, cash flow management, financial reporting, taxation, internal controls, and compliance.
- Partner with operational leaders to improve margins, optimize working capital, enhance productivity, and strengthen business performance.
- Roll up sleeves when necessary to resolve operational challenges, improve processes, and deliver tangible business outcomes.
- Provide leadership in navigating complex business situations, balancing commercial opportunities with financial discipline and risk management.
Stakeholder, Board & Investor Management
- Establish strong credibility and trusted relationships with Board members, shareholders, banking partners, auditors, regulators, and senior management.
- Present business performance, financial insights, and strategic recommendations with confidence and clarity at Board and executive forums.
- Lead negotiations and engagements with financial institutions and external stakeholders on funding, financing structures, strategic partnerships, and growth initiatives.
- Act as a key ambassador for the organization in matters relating to governance, risk management, and corporate stewardship.
Governance, Risk & Compliance
- Strengthen governance, risk management, and internal control frameworks across the Group.
- Ensure compliance with all statutory, tax, audit, regulatory, and financial reporting requirements.
- Safeguard the integrity of the organization while supporting business agility, innovation, and growth.
- Provide oversight and leadership in risk assessment, mitigation, and business continuity planning.
Requirements
- Chartered Accountant (CA, CPA, ACCA, ICAEW, or equivalent professional qualification).
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline. MBA or postgraduate qualifications will be an added advantage.
- Minimum 15 years of progressive leadership experience, including significant experience in senior finance leadership positions.
- Proven success operating as a CFO, Finance Director, or equivalent executive leadership role.
- Experience leading and developing sizeable finance organizations, including teams of 40 or more professionals.
- Strong exposure to diversified business environments, ideally within manufacturing, distribution, wholesale, and service-oriented industries.
- Demonstrated track record in business transformation, organizational restructuring, performance turnaround, and operational improvement.
- Strong executive presence with the ability to influence, challenge, and engage stakeholders at Board and C-suite level.
- Exceptional commercial acumen with the ability to connect financial strategy to business outcomes.
