 Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience. 
• Candidates who are still completing their degree may also be considered where their availability and demonstrated experience support full-time contribution. 
• Demonstrated software engineering experience in one or more programming languages, including JavaScript or TypeScript, Python, Java, C, or C++. 
• Demonstrated proficiency in at least one of the following areas, together with an interest in and willingness to work across the others: 
• Web or mobile front-end development with modern UI frameworks, such as React or React Native. 
• Back-end systems and infrastructure, including cloud services and data-pipeline technologies such as AWS Lambda, SQS, S3, DynamoDB, Aurora, and CloudWatch. 
• Applied AI systems and integrations, including prompt design, embeddings and RAG, structured-output validation, AI evaluation, and document or multimodal understanding. 
• Strong product sense and an ability to build simple, reliable workflows for real users. 
• Sound technical judgement and the ability to make and explain pragmatic implementation trade-offs. 
• Comfort working with ambiguity, evolving requirements, and fast iteration in a startup environment. 

Especially helpful

• Experience building educational, data-intensive, or workflow-oriented products. 
• Familiarity with Southeast Asian education systems, international schools, assessment workflows, or school operations. 
• For candidates based in Malaysia, relevant language ability, local education-market familiarity, or eventual ability to support future regional work may be an additional advantage.

Candidates who do not yet fully meet the bar for the full-time Member of Technical Staff role, but who show strong technical potential, ownership, and learning ability, may also be considered first for a trainee, part-time, contract, or independent-contractor pathway, depending on current needs and candidate availability.

• Initial screening call: A short conversation to understand your background, communication style, availability, and interest in the role. 
• Technical discussion or exercise: A role-relevant discussion or practical exercise focused on how you approach software engineering problems, technical trade-offs, product requirements, and implementation. 
• Final conversation: A conversation with founders or relevant team leads focused on fit, ownership, working style, and how you would operate in an early-stage environment.

Full-Stack / AI Software Engineering

This is a broad software engineering role for candidates who can build across front-end, back-end, data, and AI systems.

The role is remote and full-time, suitable for strong software engineers who can contribute across the stack and operate with ownership in an early-stage environment. You may work on front-end web, mobile, back-end services, data pipelines, AI integrations, internal tools, and product features used by educators.

The emphasis is on building reliable user-facing product and internal systems, rather than on pure research or isolated model development.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate closely with educators, designers, and engineers to scope, build, and ship product features end-to-end. 
• Work across the stack, including front-end web, mobile, back-end services, data pipelines, AI integrations, and internal tools. 
• Design and implement maintainable systems with well-defined interfaces between front-end, back-end, data, and AI components. 
• Take ownership of projects from requirements clarification through implementation, release, and iteration based on user feedback. 
• Contribute to software engineering practices through code reviews, design reviews, testing, observability, and documentation. 
• Communicate technical decisions clearly across product, design, and non-technical stakeholders. 

The level of ownership and project scope will be calibrated to demonstrated capability. We welcome strong early-career candidates as well as more experienced engineers.
