DATA ENGINEER (SENIOR / LEAD LEVEL – GCP)

Location: Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya, Selangor (near 1 Utama Shopping Centre)

Hybrid Working Arrangement:

4 days onsite, 1 day work from home

Note: Work from home day cannot be on Monday or Friday (fixed client policy)

1-Year Contract (High Conversion to Permanent)

Budget: Up to RM15,000 – RM19,000 + 13th Month Bonus

About Our Client

Our client is a large, well-established regional retail group with a strong presence across health, beauty, and supermarket segments. They operate high-volume, multi-channel businesses and are currently investing heavily in modernizing their data platform to support advanced analytics, reporting, and data-driven decision-making across business units.

The team is building a scalable cloud-based data ecosystem on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) to unify transactional, customer, and operational data.

Role Overview

We are hiring a Senior / Lead Data Engineer to take ownership of designing and scaling modern data pipelines within a GCP environment.

This role is critical — the successful candidate is expected to lead data engineering initiatives, guide junior engineers, and ensure production-grade data reliability.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and optimize scalable ETL/ELT pipelines on GCP
• Architect and maintain data models for BI and analytics use cases
• Lead implementation of data orchestration workflows (Airflow / Composer)
• Handle large-scale structured & semi-structured datasets
• Implement data quality, validation, and monitoring frameworks
• Optimize SQL performance and pipeline efficiency
• Collaborate closely with BI and analytics stakeholders (Tableau environment)
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the team

Must-Have Requirements (STRICT – CLIENT FILTER)

• Minimum 8 years of hands-on Data Engineering experience
• Strong expertise in SQL (complex queries, optimization, tuning)
• Strong Python for data pipelines and processing
• Proven experience with GCP (BigQuery, Cloud Composer, etc.)
• Hands-on experience with Airflow / Composer / orchestration tools
• Experience building production-grade data models for analytics
• Prior experience in high-volume / transactional environments
• Comfortable working hybrid (4 days onsite, 1 day WFH — not Monday/Friday)
• Open to 1-year contract (high conversion likelihood)
