Position : Data Analyst

(BI & ETL / BI System Administrator)

Role Purpose

The Data Analyst is responsible for delivering accurate, trusted, and actionable insights by combining analytics, ETL, data warehouse, and BI platform administration. This role ensures data is correctly extracted, transformed, stored, governed, and presented, while maintaining the health, security, and usability of the BI platform and data warehouse. The Data Analyst acts as both the guardian of data integrity and the owner of the BI system and reporting data layer.

Key Responsibilities

1. Data Understanding, Extraction & Validation

• Understand data structures and flows from core business systems (CRM, ERP, operational systems)
• Extract data using queries, APIs, or connectors
• Validate data accuracy, completeness, and consistency
• Identify data gaps, anomalies, and data quality issues
• Work with technical teams to resolve data issues at the source

2. ETL & Data Transformation

• Design, build, and maintain ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) pipelines
• Transform raw data into clean, structured datasets for reporting and analysis
• Apply business rules, calculations, and standardisation logic
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimise ETL jobs and data refresh schedules
• Ensure data pipelines are reliable and performant

3. Data Warehouse and Cloud Data Platform Management

• Maintain and support the reporting data warehouse or centralised data store
• Design and manage data warehouse schemas to support analytics and reporting
• Ensure data warehouse tables are well-structured, documented, and optimised for BI usage
• Coordinate changes to data warehouse structures resulting from system or process changes
• Ensure data consistency between source systems, data warehouse, and BI reports
• Monitor, optimize, and manage cloud data platform performance and usage, including query efficiency and resource utilization

4. BI System Administration (Platform Ownership)

• Act as the administrator and owner of the BI platform (e.g. DOMO or similar)
• Manage users, roles, permissions, and access controls
• Configure data connections, datasets, and refresh schedules
• Monitor system usage, performance, and data freshness
• Maintain BI platform configuration, documentation, and best practices

5. KPI Definition & Metric Governance

• Work with stakeholders to define clear and consistent KPIs
• Document metric definitions, calculation logic, and assumptions
• Ensure KPIs are applied consistently across dashboards and reports
• Prevent conflicting metrics and maintain a single version of truth

6. BI Reporting & Dashboard Development

• Design, build, and maintain dashboards and reports
• Translate business questions into clear, actionable visualisations
• Ensure dashboards are intuitive, accurate, and easy to use
• Continuously improve reports based on user feedback

7. Business Analysis & Insights

• Perform trend, variance, and root-cause analysis
• Highlight risks, anomalies, and key performance drivers
• Support management and operational reviews with data-backed insights
• Respond to ad-hoc analytical requests

8. BI Governance, Security & Enablement

• Enforce BI and data governance standards
• Ensure appropriate access controls and protection of sensitive data
• Support user onboarding and training for BI tools
• Promote data literacy and effective use of dashboards across the organisation

9. Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

• Work closely with business users to understand reporting needs
• Collaborate with Application Analysts and Tech Leads during system changes
• Validate reporting outputs during UAT and releases
• Recommend improvements to data models, data warehouse structures, ETL logic, and BI practices

Skills & Experience

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Hands-on experience with BI platforms (dashboards, datasets, permissions)
• Practical experience with ETL / data transformation
• Experience working with or supporting a data warehouse or centralised reporting database
• Solid understanding of relational data concepts (tables, joins, keys, relationships)
• Ability to translate business questions into analytical and reporting solutions
• SQL proficiency for data extraction, transformation, and validation
• Experience using scripting languages (e.g. Python, PowerShell, or similar) for light automation and data preparation
• Experience with ETL or data preparation tools
• Familiarity with data warehouse modelling concepts (facts, dimensions, star schemas)
• Familiarity with BI governance, dataset management, and access control
• Experience working with CRM, ERP, or similar systems e.g. SAP, MONDAY CRM
• Experience engaging with and managing stakeholders for both technical and non-technical audiences
