Role : Transport Leader

Location : Kuala Lumpur


The primary focus of the Transport Team Leader is to develop and successfully lead and manage a profitable team of engineers and specialists servicing the infrastructure market with focus on transportation business (rail, highways, aviation and maritime) in Malaysia.


Role Overview


The Transport business focuses on delivering high-quality engineering and associated consulting services to clients who recognize and value technical excellence, innovation, and long-term outcomes over price alone. The objective is to leverage the firm's expertise, technical capabilities, and project experience to build and grow a sustainable and profitable business.


The Team Leader will possess a strong understanding of the transportation market in which they operate, supported by an established professional network and sound knowledge of current and emerging client needs. They should be capable of positioning the firm's multidisciplinary capabilities to deliver integrated, value-driven solutions. Ongoing support will be provided to further strengthen client relationships, market knowledge, and business development capabilities.


The Team Leader will be responsible for contributing to the development and execution of the local business plan, strengthening the technical and commercial capabilities of the existing team, and fostering collaboration across regional teams, business units, geographies, and external stakeholders. They will provide strategic leadership by articulating a clear vision, setting direction, aligning resources, and motivating the team to deliver exceptional client outcomes while achieving sustainable business growth and profitability.


An added advantage will be possession of a Professional Engineer Practising Certificate (PEPC), enabling the individual to perform the role of Submitting Person (SP)/Qualified Person (QP) for projects undertaken by the organization, where applicable.


Key Responsibilities


  • Lead the establishment, growth, and overall performance of the Transport business and team within the Malaysia office, serving as a key member of the country's leadership team.
  • Provide strategic and technical leadership for the delivery of transportation consulting services, ensuring high-quality project execution, client satisfaction, and commercial success.
  • Develop and execute the Transport business strategy and operating plans aligned with the organization's overall business objectives, while continuously strengthening the team's technical capabilities and market competitiveness.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of country and regional business plans, collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams across business units and geographies to pursue and deliver complex projects.
  • Drive business development by identifying opportunities, securing new work, negotiating major contracts, and maintaining strong relationships with clients, industry partners, and key stakeholders.
  • Assume leadership roles on projects as required, including Submitting Person (SP), Qualified Person (QP), Project Director, Project Manager, Design Manager, or Technical Reviewer, depending on project requirements and professional accreditation.
  • Lead the planning, design, and delivery of large, complex transportation projects, ensuring technical excellence, effective resource management, timely delivery, budget compliance, and adherence to current engineering standards and best practices.
  • Represent the organization with clients, government agencies, and industry bodies at both national and, where appropriate, international levels, enhancing the firm's reputation and market presence.
  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing team through effective recruitment, talent development, performance management, succession planning, and employee engagement.
  • Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality (HSEQ) policies, while proactively managing commercial, contractual, and project delivery risks through sound governance and project management practices.
  • Ensure appropriate technical reviews and quality assurance processes are conducted throughout the project lifecycle to deliver solutions that meet client objectives, optimize project outcomes, enhance constructability, improve value, and achieve efficient project delivery.
  • Proven track record in securing major projects;
  • Experience working with major local and international clients;
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams on complex projects;
  • Experience and passion for mentorship and team development.
