This role reports to the Head of AI and Innovation.
Role Summary
Join an engineering team that finds high-value problems across the business and solves them end-to-end – frontend, backend, cloud infrastructure, internal tooling, or AI where it genuinely adds value. This is not a “frontend role” or a “backend role.” You’ll be given a problem and expected to find and build the right solution across whatever layer of the stack it touches. AI is one tool in the belt, not the entire identity.
You will work in a small, high-ownership environment directly alongside the team lead, with real responsibility from day one. Projects span the full stack and vary in domain – one week you might be building a React dashboard, the next you’re wiring up an AI pipeline on AWS, and the week after you’re designing an API for a new internal service.
We're looking for engineers who don't wait for instructions, chase problems because they're interesting, and measure growth by what they've shipped – not by how long they've been around for.
Key Responsibilities
Build & Ship
- Design, develop, and deploy solutions across the full stack – frontend interfaces, backend services, APIs, and cloud infrastructure – to solve real business problems
- Write clean, well-tested, production-quality code across multiple languages: TypeScript (backend and frontend with React/Next.js), Go for services, and Python for AI and data workloads
- Own problems end-to-end: from understanding the business need, through solution design, implementation across whatever stack layer is required (UI, API, infra, AI), to deployment and monitoring
- Participate in code reviews, giving and receiving constructive feedback to maintain high engineering standards
Innovation & Applied AI
- Build AI-powered solutions where they deliver genuine business value – including LLM integrations, document processing, and intelligent automation
- Prototype and validate new ideas quickly, with the discipline to know when a prototype should become a product and when it should be shelved
- Stay current with emerging tools, frameworks, and patterns in applied AI engineering and bring relevant ideas back to the team
Internal Tooling & Frameworks
- Contribute to the design and development of internal engineering frameworks, service scaffolds, and shared libraries used across the broader engineering organisation
- Help define and enforce engineering standards through tooling – standardised project templates, CI/CD patterns, observability, and deployment automation
- Work with the main BSS engineering team to ensure frameworks meet real-world needs and are adopted effectively
Collaborate & Communicate
- Work closely with the Product Manager and business stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions
- Communicate technical decisions, tradeoffs, and progress clearly to both technical and non-technical team members
- Operate effectively in a small team where collaboration, initiative, and open communication are essential
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum Diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field (Statistics, Mathematics, or Physics graduates who can code are welcome)
- Solid programming fundamentals and a full-stack mindset – comfortable working in Python and TypeScript, with willingness to pick up Go
- Comfortable with git, command line, REST APIs, and modern web development workflows (both frontend and backend)
- Understanding of cloud concepts (AWS preferred) or strong willingness to learn – prior hands-on experience is a plus, not a requirement
- Able to communicate technical ideas clearly in English, both written and spoken
- Self-directed with a bias toward action – the kind of person who sees something broken and fixes it before being asked
Preferred
- Side projects, open-source contributions, or a GitHub profile that demonstrates building beyond coursework
- Hands-on experience with AWS services (ECS, Lambda, S3, Aurora, or similar)
- Experience with frontend frameworks (React, Next.js) or a willingness to learn
- Exposure to AI/ML tooling, LLM APIs, or data pipelines
- Experience with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, or infrastructure-as-code
- Hackathon participation or competitive programming background
Why Join Us
- Ground-floor opportunity to shape a brand-new team and its engineering culture
- Hands-on mentorship from a senior engineer across the full stack – frontend, backend, infrastructure, AI, and developer tooling
- Real ownership from day one: no months of onboarding before you touch production
- Become a true all-rounder – most junior roles box you into one layer of the stack; here you’ll work across frontend, backend, infrastructure, and AI
- Competitive compensation with generous bonus and share scheme
