Job Description:

Dental assistants play a vital role in supporting dentists and ensuring the efficient operation of dental practices. Their duties cover a broad range of clinical, administrative, and patient care responsibilities. Below are the key responsibilities associated with the position of a dental nurse:

Clinical Responsibilities

1. Chairside Assistance

• Prepare dental instruments, materials, and equipment prior to dental procedures.
• Support dentists during treatments and surgeries by passing instruments, performing suction, and maintaining a clear working area.

2. Infection Control

• Ensure strict adherence to infection control and sterilization standards to safeguard patients and staff.
• Clean, disinfect, and sterilize dental instruments and equipment.

3. Patient Preparation

• Greet patients and prepare them for scheduled dental procedures.
• Record and update patients’ medical histories and vital signs.

4. Radiography

• Perform dental X-rays while ensuring correct positioning and compliance with safety protocols.
• Process, store, and maintain radiographic images.

5. Record Keeping

• Maintain accurate and updated patient records, including treatment plans and progress notes.
• Ensure patient confidentiality and compliance with data protection regulations.

6. Clinical Support

• Assist in a variety of dental procedures such as scaling, fillings, extractions, and root canal treatments.
• Take dental impressions and prepare cast models.

Administrative Responsibilities

7. Appointment Scheduling

• Coordinate appointment bookings, confirmations, rescheduling, and cancellations.
• Maintain a well-organized patient appointment system.

8. Patient Communication

• Communicate treatment plans, follow-up visits, and post-treatment care instructions to patients.
• Respond to patient questions and address concerns professionally.

9. Inventory Management

• Monitor dental supplies and ensure timely restocking.
• Maintain accurate inventory records and place orders when required.

Patient Care Responsibilities

10. Patient Comfort

• Ensure patients feel comfortable and supported throughout dental procedures.
• Provide reassurance to help reduce patient anxiety.

11. Oral Health Education

• Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, including brushing, flossing, and dietary care.
• Provide instructions on post-treatment and post-operative care.

12. Health and Safety

• Comply with health and safety guidelines, including the handling of hazardous materials and proper waste disposal.
• Assist in managing medical emergencies by following established protocols.

Radiation Protection

13. Radiation Safety

• Ensure all radiation protection measures are strictly followed during radiographic procedures.
• Explain radiation safety precautions to patients when necessary.

Team Collaboration

14. Collaboration with the Dental Team

• Work collaboratively with dentists, dental hygienists, and other staff to deliver comprehensive patient care.
• Provide support with both clinical and administrative duties as required.

Professional Development

15. Continuing Education

• Engage in continuous learning and training to remain updated on dental practices, regulations, and emerging technologies.

Job Summary
Provides comprehensive support to dentists through clinical, administrative, and patient care responsibilities, ensuring effective infection control, radiographic procedures, record management, appointment coordination, and patient comfort.

Pay: RM1,700.00 - RM2,500.00 per month
