Gearbox Specialist

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Gearbox Specialist to diagnose, repair, overhaul, and maintain automatic and manual transmissions for a wide range of passenger and commercial vehicles. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically competent, and committed to delivering high-quality workmanship and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose gearbox and transmission faults using diagnostic tools and road testing.

• Remove, dismantle, inspect, repair, rebuild, and reinstall automatic and manual gearboxes.

• Perform servicing of transmission systems, including ATF replacement and transmission adaptations.

• Repair and replace components such as clutch packs, valve bodies, torque converters, mechatronics, bearings, seals, and synchronizers.

• Conduct post-repair testing to ensure smooth operation and reliability.

• Identify related drivetrain issues involving transfer cases, differentials, driveshafts, and clutches.

• Follow manufacturer repair procedures and workshop quality standards.

• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.

• Record repair findings and communicate technical issues clearly with service advisors and workshop management.

• Assist and mentor junior technicians when required.

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years of experience in gearbox or transmission repairs.

• Strong knowledge of automatic, CVT, DCT/DSG, and manual transmissions.

• Ability to use automotive diagnostic equipment and interpret fault codes.

• Experience with gearbox overhauls and precision measurements is an advantage.

• Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

• Able to work independently and as part of a team.

• Valid Class 3 driving licence is preferred.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with European, Japanese, and Korean vehicles.

• Familiarity with brands such as ZF, Aisin, Jatco, DSG/DQ-series, Mercedes-Benz 7G/9G, and CVT transmissions.

• Good communication and time management skills.

• Positive attitude and willingness to learn new technologies.
