Role Description

The Chief Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based at The Danna Langkawi in Langkawi. This role oversees all engineering and maintenance operations, including preventive and corrective maintenance of building systems, guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house facilities. Key responsibilities include managing HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems; coordinating inspections; ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards; and maintaining optimal resort appearance and functionality. The Chief Engineer leads and schedules the engineering team, manages vendor relationships and service contracts, monitors energy consumption, and develops maintenance plans and budgets. The role also supports emergency response procedures, addresses engineering-related guest concerns promptly, and collaborates closely with other departments to uphold the resort’s luxury standards.

Qualifications

• Strong experience in hotel or resort engineering management, including facilities maintenance and building systems oversight.
• Proficiency with HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and fire safety systems, and ability to interpret technical drawings and manuals.
• Proven leadership skills in supervising, training, and scheduling engineering teams, with a focus on performance and safety.
• Experience in planning and executing preventive maintenance programs, asset management, and project coordination.
• Ability to manage budgets, control costs, and work effectively with contractors and service providers.
• Knowledge of local building codes, health and safety regulations, and environmental and energy-efficiency practices.
• Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills, with attention to detail and a hands-on approach.
• Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and interact with guests professionally when required.
• Relevant technical diploma or degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field; professional certifications are an advantage.
