About the Role
Risehill Data Analysis is seeking a Lab Engineer – Functional Masterbatch to support the development, optimisation and quality control of high-performance functional masterbatch products.
The role combines polymer formulation, laboratory testing, QA/QC and production trial support, working closely with R&D and production teams to translate laboratory formulations into consistent pilot and commercial products.
Our initial product portfolio includes Agricultural, Anti-Fog, Anti-Static and Anti-Microbial Masterbatch, with opportunities to develop additional functional and specialty masterbatch products as the business expands.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and optimise functional masterbatch formulations based on performance, processing requirements and cost.
- Select and evaluate suitable polymer carriers, additives and functional ingredients.
- Conduct laboratory formulation trials and prepare samples for pilot/production trials.
- Perform essential laboratory testing including MFI, density and moisture analysis, dispersion and pellet quality evaluation, physical and visual inspection, formulation/component verification, as well as other relevant polymer/material characterisation.
- Analyse test results and recommend formulation or process improvements.
- Support production trials, scale-up and process parameter optimisation.
- Troubleshoot formulation, dispersion, processing and product-quality issues.
- Establish and maintain product specifications and QC procedures.
- Conduct raw-material and finished-product QC and maintain batch traceability.
- Investigate non-conformities and support root-cause analysis and CAPA.
- Prepare formulation records, laboratory reports, TDS and other technical documentation.
- Evaluate new additives, raw materials and technologies for product development and cost optimisation.
- Support customer technical trials and troubleshooting when required.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, testing procedures, calibration/verification records and laboratory safety standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Polymer Engineering, Polymer Science, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Plastics Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in masterbatch, polymer compounding, plastics processing, polymer R&D, formulation or QA/QC laboratory work.
- Practical understanding of polymer materials, additives, compounding and masterbatch production.
- Hands-on experience with laboratory testing and data analysis; experience with MFI, density and moisture testing is highly desirable.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Good technical documentation and reporting skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and laboratory data analysis.
Advantageous
- Experience with twin-screw extrusion or masterbatch production.
- Experience developing functional additives/masterbatch.
- Familiarity with DSC, TGA, FTIR, spectrophotometry or other polymer characterisation techniques.
- Experience with DOE, statistical optimisation or data-driven formulation.
- Knowledge of sustainable/bio-based polymer additives.
- Experience with ISO 9001 or laboratory quality systems.
