Job Summary
We are looking for a hands-on Hardware Board Design Lead / Engineer to design next-generation AI/HPC server motherboards and related platforms that integrate advanced CPU, GPU, and AI accelerator silicon into production-ready systems. You will own complex board designs end to end, from system definition through manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
Board Architecture & Design
- Lead the design of server motherboards, accelerator cards, mezzanine cards, base boards, and evaluation platforms, from architecture and schematics through PCB implementation and production.
- Translate system requirements into board architecture, component selection, placement, PCB design constraints, and validation requirements.
- Partner with the ASIC/SoC team during early product definition to evaluate architecture options and system tradeoffs.
- Drive component placement, PCB stack-up, and layer-count optimization, balancing performance, power, thermal, reliability, manufacturability, and cost.
High-Speed Integration, Power & Thermal
- Design and integrate high-speed and platform interfaces, including PCIe Gen5/Gen6, CXL, high-speed Ethernet/SerDes, DDR5, I2C, SPI, UART, and JTAG.
- Define system connectivity and PCIe topology across CPUs, GPUs/AI accelerators, PCIe switches, retimers, NICs, and peripherals.
- Incorporate power delivery, sequencing, budgeting, and thermal requirements into architecture and layout decisions.
- Work with SI, PI, thermal, PCB, mechanical, and system specialists to review analysis results (impedance, routing topology, crosstalk, power, thermal) and resolve design issues.
Bring-up, Validation & Manufacturing
- Define validation plans, test methodology, and required test equipment.
- Lead board bring-up, debugging, characterization, and system-level validation using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, and other lab equipment, working alongside BIOS/BMC, firmware, FPGA/CPLD, ASIC, and software teams.
- Collaborate with ODM/OEM and manufacturing partners through prototype builds, EVT/DVT/PVT, and production ramp.
- Maintain complete PCBA documentation: schematics, BOM, PCB specifications, assembly requirements, and special manufacturing processes.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 5–10+ years of hands-on experience designing complex server, accelerator, or HPC boards from schematic through bring-up and validation.
- Proven track record on CPU, GPU, or AI accelerator platforms, with strong expertise in placement, stack-up, and layer-count tradeoffs.
- Hands-on experience with the high-speed and control interfaces listed above.
- Working knowledge of PI, SI, and thermal, with the ability to turn specialist analysis into board-design decisions.
- Strong lab bring-up and debug skills, plus experience working directly with PCB/PCBA, ODM, and OEM partners.
