Looking for a Founding Chief Engineer

I'm building an early-stage technology company focused on solving a real problem in the AEC (Architecture, Engineering & Construction) industry, starting with engineering and design compliance workflows.

I'm looking for a technically strong person who can take genuine ownership of the technology and engineering side of the company. This is not simply a developer role. I'm looking for someone who can think architecturally, make sound technical decisions independently, build hands-on, and eventually lead the technical organisation as we grow.

The opportunity

I already have an initial proof-of-concept and a clear problem developing to solve. I am now looking for someone who can take that early foundation and help turn it into a robust, scalable product.

You'll work directly with me as the founder, with significant ownership over the technical direction and how we build the company from the ground up.

What you'll own

Technical leadership & ownership

• Own the overall technical direction and architecture
• Translate product and customer requirements into robust technical solutions
• Make independent decisions around technology, architecture and infrastructure
• Evaluate technical risks, trade-offs and build-vs-buy decisions
• Define the technical roadmap from POC → production
• Establish engineering, testing, security and deployment practices
• Determine what we should build ourselves, integrate or outsource
• Eventually recruit and lead the engineering team as the company grows

Hands-on engineering

• Develop frontend and backend applications
• Build APIs, databases and integrations
• Work with cloud infrastructure and deployment
• Develop engineering/compliance logic
• Work with CAD/DWG and engineering data
• Explore and integrate AI/ML or computer vision where it genuinely adds value
• Review and improve the existing POC and technical foundation

Who I am looking for

You may currently be a Senior Software Engineer, Technical Lead, Solutions Architect, Engineering Manager, CTO or experienced technical founder. The title matters less than your ability to take ownership of the technology.

I am particularly looking for someone with:

• Strong full-stack software development experience
• Strong understanding of software architecture and system design
• Experience building and deploying production applications
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and modern development practices
• The ability to make sound technical decisions independently
• Strong problem-solving and engineering fundamentals
• A willingness to be hands-on and write code, not just manage engineers
• The ability to eventually build and lead an engineering team

AEC experience (AEC experience is strongly preferred)

I am particularly interested in people with experience in:

• Civil engineering
• Traffic engineering
• Structural engineering
• Architecture
• Construction technology
• BIM
• CAD / engineering software

Experience working with CAD/DWG processing, geometry, AI/ML, computer vision or engineering data would be a significant advantage.

That said, strong technical capability comes first. AEC domain knowledge can be developed; the ability to architect and build a robust product is critical.

What’s being offered?

This will initially be a fractional engagement, allowing the right person to contribute alongside existing commitments. The exact title and structure can be flexible depending on experience.

For the right individual, there is potential to grow the role into a full-time CTO / technical co-founder position as the company develops. Compensation will be structured based on experience, commitment and scope, with potential equity participation for the right long-term fit.
