Job Overview

The System Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day administration, monitoring, security, backup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the Company's on-premise and cloud infrastructure supporting internal and project systems. The role requires hands-on experience with Windows Server and Linux, AWS or another major cloud platform, infrastructure monitoring and alerting tools, and database support such as PostgreSQL. The System Administrator works closely with project, application, security, PMO, and vendor teams to maintain reliable and secure production, UAT, and development environments.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

• Administer and maintain Windows Server and Linux environments, including installation, configuration, user and access management, patching, hardening, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
• Administer AWS or equivalent cloud environments such as Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud, including virtual machines, storage, networking, IAM/access control, security groups/firewalls, snapshots, backups, and logging.
• Monitor server, network, cloud, application-supporting infrastructure, and service health using monitoring and alerting tools such as AWS CloudWatch, Zabbix, PRTG, Grafana, Nagios, or equivalent tools.
• Configure and maintain monitoring thresholds, dashboards, alerts, logs, and escalation procedures; respond to alerts and service degradation before they become prolonged outages.
• Investigate and resolve infrastructure incidents involving server availability, CPU/memory utilisation, disk/storage, network connectivity, operating systems, cloud services, and system performance.
• Perform root cause analysis for outages and recurring technical issues, document findings, and implement or recommend corrective and preventive actions.
• Manage backup and recovery activities for servers, cloud workloads, and supported databases; verify backup jobs and periodically perform restore or recovery tests in accordance with project requirements.
• Provide administration and operational support for PostgreSQL or similar relational databases, including installation/configuration support, user/role management, backup and restore, monitoring, capacity checks, and basic performance troubleshooting.
• Manage infrastructure security controls including OS security updates, SSL/TLS certificates, endpoint protection, access permissions, account reviews, vulnerability remediation, and secure configuration baselines.
• Support common infrastructure and network services including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, firewall rules, routing, load balancing, and secure connectivity between systems and environments.
• Use PowerShell, Bash, or similar scripting tools to automate routine administration, health checks, log collection, backup tasks, and repetitive operational activities where appropriate.
• Support infrastructure activities for project deployment, UAT, production cutover, maintenance windows, disaster recovery exercises, and troubleshooting with application and database teams.
• Maintain accurate infrastructure documentation including server inventories, cloud resources, architecture/configuration records, SOPs, backup records, access records, incident records, and technical runbooks.
• Coordinate with internal teams, customers, cloud/service providers, and vendors for infrastructure incidents, changes, maintenance, support cases, and technical follow-up.
• Participate in after-hours or scheduled maintenance and critical incident support when required by project or operational needs.

Other Responsibilities and Duties

• Work with PMO, application, database, network, and security teams on infrastructure planning, configuration, maintenance, and project delivery.
• Follow the Company's change management, information security, access control, incident management, and documentation procedures.
• Communicate infrastructure status, incidents, risks, maintenance activities, and required actions clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Perform other reasonable infrastructure and system administration duties assigned by the Superior or Management from time to time.

Skills and Experience

Academic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Network/Infrastructure Engineering, or a related discipline; equivalent technical qualifications may be considered.
• Relevant professional certification in AWS, Microsoft Azure, Linux, Microsoft, networking, or security is an advantage.

Experience

• 2-3 years of hands-on experience in system administration, infrastructure support, or cloud operations; minimum 2 years relevant working experience is required.
• At least 2 years of hands-on experience administering AWS or another major cloud platform such as Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud.
• Hands-on experience supporting both Windows Server and Linux systems in production or business-critical environments.
• Experience using infrastructure monitoring, logging, and alerting tools and performing incident troubleshooting/root cause analysis.
• Experience supporting PostgreSQL or another relational database in an operational environment is required.

Technical Skills

• Windows Server administration and Linux
• AWS or equivalent cloud concepts and services: compute/VM, storage, networking, IAM, security controls, monitoring, backup, and logging.
• Monitoring tools such as CloudWatch, Zabbix, PRTG, Grafana, Nagios, or equivalent.
• PostgreSQL operational administration including users/roles, backup/restore, monitoring, capacity, and basic performance troubleshooting.
• Working knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, firewall rules, routing, SSL/TLS, and common infrastructure troubleshooting methods.
• Basic scripting using PowerShell, Bash, or similar tools.
• Strong problem-solving, incident handling, documentation, communication, and stakeholder coordination skills.

Preferred / Advantage

• Exposure to VMware/Hyper-V, Docker, infrastructure automation such as Ansible/Terraform, CI/CD environments, or centralized log management is an advantage.
• Experience supporting healthcare, regulated, high-availability, or government project environments is an advantage.

Pay: RM3,500.00 - RM4,000.00 per month
