Quantedge Advancement Initiative (QAI) is a privately funded philanthropic organisation established in Singapore. Our mission is to catalyse transformative solutions and collaboratively drive scalable, sustainable change for people and the planet. 

Our grant-making work across Southeast Asia spans two portfolios: 

• Global Development, focusing on early childhood development, and youth employment and livelihoods; and 
• Climate Change Action, focusing on nature-based solutions, and sustainable agriculture and livelihoods. 

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking an intern to support our Climate Change Action portfolio, primarily Sustainable Agriculture & Livelihoods. The intern will undertake applied research on diversified and integrated farming systems and support the management and learning of selected climate programmes within QAI’s portfolio.

Working directly with the Programme Lead (Climate), the intern will contribute to the following areas:

• Conduct research on selected sustainable agriculture and climate-related topics, with an initial focus on diversified and integrated smallholder farming systems;
• Map relevant approaches, initiatives and available evidence, and identify intervention gaps and potential funding opportunities that are aligned with QAI’s philanthropic objectives;
• Support the management and learning of selected existing programmes, helping QAI monitor progress and capture lessons for future programmes;
• Contribute to other programme research, communications, and knowledge management needs.

There may be an opportunity for conversion to a full-time role at the end of the internship, subject to good performance and strong organisational fit.

WHO SHOULD APPLY

This internship is open to undergraduates entering their penultimate or final year of study, postgraduate students, and recent graduates who completed their studies within the past 12 months. 

Applicants should possess: 

• A relevant academic background or demonstrated familiarity with climate change, environmental studies, agriculture, food systems, development studies or a related field;
• A strong interest in addressing climate and environmental challenges;
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English;
• An ability to synthesise information or complex concepts into actionable insights;
• An ability to work independently and as part of a small team;
• Excellent organisation, time management skills, and attention to detail.

Internship commitment (starting January 2027):

• Full-Time (Preferred): Minimum of 4 months
• Part-Time: Minimum 3 days per week, with an extended overall commitment of up to 6 months

Applicants must be legally authorised to undertake the internship in Singapore.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

• Gain exposure to climate philanthropy and grantmaking in Southeast Asia;
• Build subject knowledge in sustainable agriculture, rice systems and diversified and integrated farming systems;
• Gain a deeper understanding of the key roles and trends within the philanthropic sector in Southeast Asia;
• Apply research and evidence-synthesis skills to areas that inform and shape a live programme portfolio;
• Gain exposure to grant monitoring, partner engagement, and programme learning.

INTERNSHIP STIPEND

Interns will be paid a monthly stipend of SGD 1,200 (full-time; pro-rated where relevant).
