Role Description The Head of Trade Finance will lead Monfi’s trade finance function, overseeing the design, implementation, and growth of trade finance products and services aligned with the bank’s global strategy. This full-time, on-site role based in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, includes managing trade finance operations, risk, and compliance for instruments such as letters of credit, guarantees, and structured trade facilities. The role involves working closely with corporate and SME clients to understand their international trade needs, structuring tailored solutions, and ensuring timely execution of transactions. The Head of Trade Finance will collaborate with product, technology, risk, and legal teams to integrate trade finance offerings into Monfi’s digital platform and improve client experience. Responsibilities also include building and mentoring a high-performing team, establishing policies and procedures, and driving business development initiatives in key commodity and trade corridors.

Qualifications

• Strong expertise in Trade Finance and Finance, with the ability to design and manage complex trade finance products and portfolios.
• In-depth knowledge of International Trade and global trade regulations, with experience supporting cross-border transactions.
• Practical experience with Letters of Credit and related instruments (collections, guarantees, standby LCs), including documentation and risk assessment.
• Understanding of Commodity Markets and their impact on trade structures, pricing, and risk management.
• Proven leadership experience in a bank or financial institution, preferably in trade finance or corporate banking, with responsibility for P&L and team management.
• Strong analytical, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work closely with clients, regulators, and internal teams.
• Familiarity with digital banking platforms, trade finance technology, and process automation is highly beneficial.
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field; advanced qualifications (e.g., MBA, professional certifications in trade finance) are an advantage.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; additional languages relevant to international trade markets are a plus
