What You'll Do

As a Senior Equipment Engineer Factory Automation in Penang you’ll be at the forefront of transforming medical device manufacturing into a vibrant smart factory landscape. Your daily adventure will include designing state-of-the-art automated equipment systems for high-volume assembly; integrating robotics and machine vision technologies; rolling out real-time monitoring platforms; and collaborating with both internal teams and external partners for flawless project delivery. You’ll serve as the go-to technical expert in system controls—overseeing PLC programming across multiple platforms—and lead troubleshooting efforts spanning electrical engineering through software diagnostics. By developing rigorous validation protocols and championing preventive maintenance strategies you’ll ensure optimal equipment performance while maintaining strict regulatory compliance. Your passion for continuous improvement will drive yield enhancement projects that reduce downtime and scrap rates while optimising cycle times.   • Spearhead the design, development, qualification, and deployment of automated manufacturing equipment and assembly systems for high-volume production environments that drive efficiency and innovation.
  • Lead factory automation initiatives focused on elevating productivity, product quality, ergonomics, and overall manufacturing performance through cutting-edge technology integration.
  • Champion the implementation of Industry 4.0 technologies including machine connectivity, real-time monitoring platforms, data analytics tools, and predictive maintenance strategies that transform operations.
  • Evaluate and introduce robotics solutions, machine vision systems, automated inspection equipment, and other advanced manufacturing technologies to optimise every aspect of production.
  • Work hand-in-hand with equipment suppliers, integrators, and internal cross-functional teams to bring new automation projects from concept to reality with seamless execution.
  • Provide technical guidance in PLC programming (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Omron), HMI & SCADA systems integration, servo controls setup, sensors management, motion control systems configuration, and industrial communication networks.
  • Lead troubleshooting activities across electrical, mechanical, software, pneumatic components as well as control systems to ensure robust equipment performance every day.
  • Develop and maintain detailed equipment specifications documentation including validation protocols for IQ/OQ/PQ processes that guarantee compliance and reliability.
  • Promote preventive and predictive maintenance programmes to maximise equipment reliability while driving upgrades and capacity expansion projects that keep operations ahead of the curve.
  • Ensure all automation equipment meets FDA regulations, ISO 13485 standards, GMP requirements as well as company-specific quality mandates for absolute peace of mind.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Automation Engineering is required for this position ensuring you have a solid foundation for success.
  • At least seven years of experience in Equipment Engineering or Automation Engineering roles within highly regulated manufacturing environments such as Medical Device or Life Sciences sectors is essential.
  • A proven track record delivering factory automation projects including process optimisation for high-volume production lines demonstrates your expertise.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with PLC programming (Siemens/Allen-Bradley/Omron/Mitsubishi), HMI & SCADA systems integration as well as robotics deployment shows your technical mastery.
  • Expertise in setting up machine vision inspection systems alongside motion control & servo systems configuration for automated assembly operations is highly valued.
  • Strong familiarity with industrial networking protocols plus system controls integration across diverse equipment platforms ensures seamless communication.
  • Demonstrated ability in root cause analysis techniques coupled with advanced troubleshooting skills for complex machinery issues highlights your problem-solving abilities.
