Job Description
Reporting to the Capital Planning & Analysis Superintendent, this position is responsible for providing financial
planning, analysis, and cost-control support for the capital development activities of the Tasiast mine site, working
closely with operations and project management teams to ensure capital projects are delivered in line with
approved budgets, schedules, and Kinross standards.
Job Responsibilities
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Assist with the preparation of the annual capital budget and quarterly forecasts, incorporating inputs from
operations, exploration, projects, and administrative teams.
- Upload approved budgets into the CapEx360 (AFE-Authorization for Expenditure) system to ensure accurate
financial planning.
- Review budgeted and forecast depreciation schedules.
- Phase approved capital budgets and forecasts by period to support site cash flow planning and funding
requirements.
Capital Portfolio & Project Control
- Assist in developing and maintaining the site CAPEX portfolio and investment plan for both sustaining and
expansion projects.
- Plan, track, and monitor the progress of capital projects against approved budgets and schedules, monitoring
commitments, accruals, and forecasts to completion, and flagging variances and risks early.
- Assist Supply Chain with the AFE coding process for capital and critical (insurance) spares.
- Prepare AFE submissions for review and approval, including supplementary AFEs where approved values are
exceeded, ensuring compliance with delegation of authority thresholds.
- Classify capital expenditure correctly between sustaining and growth/expansion capital in line with Kinross
reporting definitions.
- Support the evaluation of proposed capital investments, including business case review, investment appraisal
metrics (NPV, IRR, payback), and scenario and sensitivity analysis.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare internal capital reports and cost analysis for internal distribution, including review and validation of
cost information.
- Review actual costs versus budget for closed capital projects, and analyse projects past their closure date by
cause of delay.
- Provide monthly account analysis for selected balance sheet and P&L accounts, investigating anomalies and
preparing corrective accounting entries.
- Assist departments in understanding the correct coding of their costs and post correcting journals where
required.
- Support ad hoc financial reporting and analysis as required.
Fixed Assets & Capitalization
- Monitor construction work-in-progress balances and ensure completed projects are transferred to the fixed
asset register on a timely basis.
- Support the determination of capital versus operating expenditure in line with Kinross policy and IFRS
capitalization criteria.
- Liaise with the Fixed Asset Accountants on asset creation, useful lives, and AFE close-out to ensure a clear
handover between capital project records and the fixed asset register.
Cost Management & Review
- Provide performance analysis and present capital results at monthly cost review meetings.
- Attend cost review meetings, take minutes, and document action items for the Superintendent and Finance
Management.
Collaboration, Compliance & Audit Support
- Communicate proactively with all functions involved in capital delivery, reporting on project, schedule, and cost
status and escalating issues on a timely basis.
- Provide support to external, internal, and government auditors, maintaining documentation and records to
support audit and regulatory requirements.

- 2+ years of experience in financial planning and analysis, project cost control, or capital planning, preferably in
the mining, natural resources, or industrial sector.
- Experience within a CAPEX or capital-projects environment, including cost accounting, analysis, and control.
- Working knowledge of ERP accounting systems, preferably JDE, including project-costing and general-ledger
modules.
- Experience with budgeting and forecasting software.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
- Strong proficiency in Excel and financial modeling, and in PowerPoint for presenting financial results to
management.
- A technology-driven mindset, with the curiosity and initiative to challenge manual processes and continuously
improve how capital information is produced and presented.
- Proficiency in data visualization and reporting tools, particularly Power BI, and the willingness to adopt AI and
emerging digital tools to automate reporting and strengthen analysis.
- Ability to learn quickly and act on new information.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and handle multiple priorities.
- Understanding of capital versus operating expenditure principles and asset capitalization criteria.
- Exposure to investment appraisal techniques such as NPV, IRR, and payback, including sensitivity analysis.
- Awareness of IFRS requirements relevant to capital assets, and of differences between Mauritanian statutory
accounting and IFRS, is an asset.

- Qualifications
- Degree from an authorized institution in finance, corporate finance, business administration, accounting,
economics or other closely related courses.
- A professional accounting or finance qualification (e.g., CPA, ACCA, CMA, or CFA), or progress toward one, is
an asset.
- Experience in a fast-paced, multinational environment.
