The Financial Controller serves as the dedicated interface between the Operations organisation and the wider Finance function. The role ensures that operational teams have a single, accountable point of contact for finance-related matters, while Finance receives timely, accurate and complete information required for effective financial management.
The role bridges operational delivery and finance, coordinating activity across Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Project Accounting, Financial Planning and Analysis, Treasury, Payroll, Tax and Financial Control. The individual drives financial governance, improves visibility of project and operational performance, accelerates issue resolution and supports informed business decision-making.
What you’ll be doing as our Financial Controller :
- Primary Finance contact for senior Operations personnel.
- Attend operational leadership meetings and project reviews.
- Explain financial performance, forecasts, risks, and required actions to Operations teams.
- Coordinate supplier invoice, payment, and approval issues.
- Support procurement and project teams with purchase order processes.
- Monitor customer billing, accrued income, outstanding debtors, and disputed items.
- Support project cost tracking, forecasting, profitability, margin, WIP, and accrual reviews.
- Assist with annual budgeting and monthly forecasting cycles.
- Analyse variances and review operational forecasting assumptions.
- Support project-level cash flow forecasting and working capital management.
- Identify and escalate financial, cash flow, and working capital risks.
- Produce financial reports, dashboards, KPI reporting, and review packs.
- Promote compliance with company policies, controls, and governance processes.
- Drive process standardisation and disciplined escalation procedures.
- Identify process improvements, automation opportunities, and ways to improve data quality and system adoption.
What we’re looking for in our Financial Controller:
Essental Experiance
- Experienced in Finance Business Partnering, Project Accounting, FP&A or Financial Control in industry.
- Professional accounting qualification such as CIMA or equivalent.
- Strong financial analysis and commercial capability.
- Experience supporting operational or project-based businesses.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Advanced Excel capability and experience with NetSuite.
- Strong management reporting and presentation skills.
Desirable Experience
- Power BI or comparable reporting-tool experience.
- Experience in project-based industries.
- Experience working in international or matrix organisations.
